Hello forum, I really need some advice. In my swtich over to 302 I have noticed that the shifter linkage for the 6 will not work. I am told I need to get the V8 one and then modify that in order to clear my headers (HKR6901's) I can't find one anywhere and wonder about how much modifying of both the linkage and the headers that will be required to make it work. I found this cable setup as a possible option, but want the advice of the forum on whether or not this would work. It is a ididit cable shifter made for C4. I am not at my car so I don't know what dimension the column is. The bracket on the kit says for 2.25 inch column. I really need some advice on this one as the shifter cable is pretty pricey. shifter cable https://goo.gl/8hdkp4
I did one on a Fairlane needed the bracket and arm from a v-8 model was all the headers were not a problem. If I remember although was years ago the auto arm mounted same as manual Z-bar. I I could remember half the stuff I have forgotten I would be twice as smart
I wouldn't say that, if it solves a problem and works it's worth it. about what the cost of a good floor shifter cable is.
Are you trying to use the column shifter ? If so then get a shifter cable for a v8 Granada it will hook right to your existing lever on the column and bolt to the shifting linkage on transmission, no z bar or any other linkage needed. There is a pic of it installed some place on this forum. Jack Grice jmgford on this forum has done it.
Thanks a bunch. Here is a pic of my column. I tried looking for the cable having difficulty would Jack mind if I sought him out?
Yes the piece would just hook up to the existing shifter rod, I was helping a young man that was in the same boat as you are and he purchased the cable but could not figure out how to fasten the bracket to the transmission and all it would have taken was a simple bracket made I did not crawl under car to look but it probably could have been mounted without a bracket but he is not mechanically intelligent at all. If you search the Granada v8 shifter cable on the web you will have a good idea of how it works I cant speak for Jack but he is a good person and would probably help you out
Found the article with a pic http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/c4-column-shift-linkage-longtubes.59940/#post-808694
Thanks! I read the article and they said the thread was deleted something about how it wouldn't work? The picture looks right. I can't get my column to even shift now with no linkage connected. I will continue to search for the cable.
No Woot!! The cable shifter from the Granada doesn't work. It is backwards and too short for the trouble. I a sending it back. I ended up taking the mechanical linkage from my 250 and modified it with some bending of brackets and making some new ones to bolt to the bellhousing and it WORKS smoothly with hooker headers long tube 6901's. Once I get the linkage cleaned up and painted I will post a picture of it. Finally get to keep my column shifter! Yay!!!
Well I have to apologize for giving you bad information then. I bet you have to use a shifter arm on the transmission that is made for a floor shifter which is backwards from an automatic on the column shifter arm that would correct the problem with it being backwards as for the too short it may correct that also. Glad you were able to do it, its amazing what you can do when you put your mind to work
Yellow75, You didn't give me bad advice. I appreciate any help from those on the forum. When I went to the thread that had the picture showing it, I read deeper and found that I needed the Granada bellhousing. I was also unsure as to whether or not I could flip my shifter on the side of the tranny thus making it pull in right direction. I feel better with a mechanical linkage over the cable for some reason. In the end it worked so I am happy plus I am learning new things along the way. Thanks for the help.
