Here is the option that I am going to use in the 69 1/2. I was out at the salvage yard the other day and ran across this console. I looked at it and thought to myself that with a little modification it would look good in a Mav/Comet. So I went back on Thursday and pulled it. Got it home and did nothing with it untill today. I put it in the car and made some mesurements. Had to cut it down in length and height a little but not much. I also had to cut off some of the metal re-enforcing, but not much. It came out of a 90ish Taurus SHO with an auto trans. The B&M shifter should fit right in where the stock shifter would go and will look really good. I do not have it all mounted up yet but that will not be too hard to do. This will give all of us another option for consoles, and the more the merrier.
paint it to match and it would like like it came from the factory with it installed. good job and good luck getting it finished
Actually that slot was designed to hold cassette tapes. The stereo was located in the dash with a second slot below it that was either used for the CD player or another cup holder.
Wow, I think I like that more then any other option I've seen to date! That looks like it was meant to be in these cars. I am going to try a '79-'86 Fox Body Mustang console in my 69 1/2, but if that dosen't work out how I want, I know what I'll get next! Thanks!
Thanks guys, I thought that you would like the option. Now all I have to decide is to dye the console or convert the interrior to black. Hmmmmmmmm, something to think about.
A search on ebay shows that console listed as being for a 93-95 Taurus. There was a nice one listed last night for $80 if anyone is interested. Also, on some of the SHO web sites, there were detailed instructions on what pieces are needed to transfer one of these consoles to an earlier car. This detailed proper disassemby technique to avoid breaking your nice new console.
Jay, is there anything you do not know? Man, you know everything! LOL, and I'm glad I got your phone number.... I can see me using that w/ an aftermarket shifter....hmmmmmm
I don't really know much of anything. But Google is your friend.... I have been trying to track down that steering box rebuilding company in Santee. It was sold to another company who moved it to a new location, then the inventory was sold off and the company closed. Sorry for the long delay getting back to you on this. It took a while to trace.
lol, ah the humble role! Now look at all the info you got on the Steering box company. I know when you get a hot lead, you will let me know! thanks man...
