someone in my car club is selling their originals and i think they would look nice on my maverick if they fit. they look kinda like old shelby 10 spokes but are stock on the newest generation mustang.
I have been thinkin about doing the same thing for a while. I would think that you'd need spacers at least, but I have seen them on a 66 fastback on the net somewhere, and the guy running them said he used spacers to correct the offset. They go on sale around here all the time for like $250-$300.
Yep. I run late model GT wheels. You need adapters. About 2" ought to do it depending on the tires. I would suggest the milled aluminum type that you bolt on, which in turn has its own lug studs. I don't feel like the type where you just put longer studs on your hub are particularly safe, but then again I've never heard of anybody losing a wheel on them... I wouldn't put spacers of any type on a 500hp dragster or a corner-carving autocross car, but for a daily driver that just occasionally sees a track run I don't see a problem. I drive mine every day and I am far from gentle on it.
I tried 2005 GT wheels on my '74 Grabber back in 2005... They definitely need spacers to fit, larger then I was comfortable running. The wheels are on our '95 Mustang now. edit: facelessnumber beat me to it while I was digging the pic out of the depths of this old computer!
I was going to run these on my 76 but I just sold it so..... http://southjersey.craigslist.org/pts/539534197.html I know shameful plug
By the way, I think those wheels would look excellent on your ride: I think they're appropriate 'cause it's a style not everybody's doing, (unlike mine, which is eventually gonna get stale) and they're the 6-cyl Mustang wheels going on a 6-cyl Maverick. I like it. Adapters like these ought to work I'd think... (I use 1.5 inch, but I feel like I should have used thicker ones. Then again, my wheels and tires are probably wider.)
when i first seen them they reminded me of these. she wants 400 for them though and i think there actually 17's and would robably look a little bigger on my car then in the pic. but still very nice. thanks for the photoshop work
No prob... I think they might be 16's though actually. (Which I still think would look damn fine. 17's look a lot bigger on a Maverick than on a Mustang) $400 sounds like a good deal to me if they come with good rubber. I paid $600 for mine after shipping, and they were new take-offs. I see some of the wheels you're looking at on Ebay now, but none for $400. I would go for it! One more thing though... Find out the tire size, figure out the diameter. Anything taller than 27" will rub on the front. If I turn my steering wheel all the way to the left when I back out it starts to rub, and if I make hard fast turn that involves a lot of body roll, it will rub a little. My next set of tires will have a shorter sidewall for this reason.
You will need a spacer and it will have to be a bigger spacer than if the wheel was for say maybe a 94-04 mustang. Ford changed the 05+ mustang offset. Maybe for better performance but not for sure. You can get wheels from NPD(i think) for the early mustangs. They will bolt on with very little mods. I have a 17x8 with a 225/45/17 tire. It does not rub at all but it is close. Anything else might touch.
So, did you ever decide about these wheels, newtoford? I just saw this car in the gallery and it reminded me of this thread...
no the person traded the stang into the dealership with the stock rims i believe and sold off the aftermarket ones.
Ah, what a shame. I still think they would look great. I'm halfway thinking about finding a set of those for mine. Although I like the GT wheels a lot, these other ones would kinda add to that "Eleanor's little sister" look.
Put a 71-73 Stang 9" rear out back and they will go with no spacers for the rear. Those 9" rears are pretty cheap too, as 9" rears go. Most Stangs/Cougars in those years came with 9", and they are too wide to go in anything else. They will bolt in, but the rims would need massive backspacing, just like the rims on late model Stangs. Out front, you still need spacers... Unless you get froggy and put a 69-70 Stang (or similar) subrame under your car. Then you need more backspace... Of course if you did that, you could bolt a 460 in your car easy-cheezy.
Hmm. Do those have the same spring perch width and all that? Bolt right in or do they require welding? I have kinda had my eye out for a rearend anyway...
