    Your Choice

    Hi Rednecker,

If you have an original Maverick that is totally rust free, you might wish to consider restoring it. However, the Maverick is very low on the food chain of modern "antique" automobiles. They are relatively inexpensive. That is the reason that some of us work on Mavericks along with the fact that they can be way cool rides. Recently, a showroom fresh 1972 Maverick Grabber was up for sale for $16,995.00. I believe it had about 12,000 miles on it, and you could have eaten off of the bottom of the floor pans. For comparison sake, a 1967 Rambler American 2 door sedan with an I-6 in similar condition sold for $23,000.00 three weeks ago. Mavericks just do not get the respect they deserve.

So, it is your choice ultimately. But from my point of view, unless it is an ultra-clean Grabber, you will have more fun modifying it. It would be very easy to spend more on a restoration than the car will ever be worth.

    Regards,

    David

in my eyes, safety comes before anything else.... even originallity. disc brakes wont do anything but help the value of the car, and will make it alot safer when it comes to braking

That car is still available and has been for a long time... They never indicated weather it was a grabber either

Read this article and tell me if you still feel sure of your comment. you can use the original master, and it will work. That does not make it correct.

    Thank You

    Hi,

If that is the yellow one out of Southern California you are talking about that was up on E-Bay, a friend of mine out there looked at it. He said it was a Grabber, and the VIN was right. He said it was lovely, and that they were unwilling to deal on it. He is a known collector, and the money they were asking was nothing more than chump change to him. I think he politely told them they were crazy. While I can not afford to collect match book covers, this guy told me that a mint Grabber is "worth" about $13,000 or so. A number of them have been traded in the modern "antique" car market in the last year or so. Buyers should always be very careful when buying expensive toys. If you do not know what your doing, hire an agent who does. Personally, if I had $17K to drop on a Maverick, I would be up on www.RacingJunk.com.

    Best Regards,

    David
