I have a stock 1972 8 inch rear end. What gears come stock in it, and what would you prefer in it? 355, 380? Which is more realistic for street performance?

Check your door tag for the "axle code"..."3" is 2.79 gears and "6" is 3.00 gears.

Set it up for 3.55 and you'll be happy :Handshake

best replacement depends heavily on the transmission gear ratios... t-5 vs c-4 vs AOD etc....

Depends on how you drive it most of the time. If it were mine and it was mostly used around town and some minimal highway use it would be 3.80's or 4.10's. If I used it to commute on the highway regularly it would be 3.55's. Mine is getting 3.80's when I get to taht point since it's more of a toy than transportation and low gears are FUN!
