Craig I got the template while I was on vacation. I will cut mine this weekend and have it back in the mail monday...thanks...Jim
O.K........this weekend I got the carpet glued on, got the "tube" installed, and got the speaker with grill installed. I choose a grey speaker type carpet because it kinda matches what used to be in there and it will come close to matching the trunk mat. Next up........the install. Have to install the rear 6 x 9 speakers, rear defrost, and rear speaker tray first because once I install the sub.....I won't be able to reach thru to the trunk from inside the car anymore.
Is the sub gona face the trunk or into the car...I cut mine out today...template will go in mail tommorrow...thanks Craig...Jim
Tell me why I never took the back of the back seat out to make installing speakers easier! Looks good btw.
That looks awesome. I love stuff like this. These cars are great for adding mobile audio/video equipment...lotsa room behind the rear plastic panels to hide all kinds of stuff. I ended up strapping a bass tube up into the area under package tray/rear defogger/6 x 9's to preserve trunk space...but I like this idea too.
O.K.....here it is installed. You can see why I routered out the area behind where the cross braces go.....this is so it would fit up tight all the way around the outside. It is not 100% "air-tight"........but should work pretty good.
Here it is from the insdie. It is held in place by "the wedge". Which means it is wedged in there!! Once I install the seat......the seat frame will hold it in place. I will probably have to cut the rear side panels at the very back to fit around this project. I will let you all know if I do. I shouldn't have to trim them that much...and it will be hidden behind the seat. Behind the seat I will hide the capasitors or resistors or diodes or whatever you call them that act as a "filter" and only send certain frequencies to the sub and the other frequencies to the 6 x 9 speakers. This is a MTX Thunder 12" dual voice coil sub I bought back in 1990. it is old....but should rock!!
Here is a shot from above. You can see the back of the sub sticking out. You can also see the rear package tray. I found this tray with a bunch of Maverick parts I bought. I have never seen a plain package tray with holes drilled in it for the speaker sound to get out. The holes was covered with a linen cloth from underneath. It was faded real bad, so I removed the old cloth. Once I cut a hole in it for an NOS dealer installed rear defrost, I painted the package tray. I then went to Hobby Lobby and bought some new black linen and glued it in place over the holes from underneath. All of this was an effort to hide my new Pioneer TS-A6971R 3-way speakers. Before I installed the package tray, I glued down a half inch insulation/sound deadner I removed from an LDO car (this car will have a complete LDO sound deadning package installed). The end result is 100% invisible audio. It will all look factory from the oustide. The black linen over the holes makes the speakers inpossible to see.
Looking good! I gotta ask though ... what type of music you plan on pumping through this thing? You into Rock, Pop, Rap, Country, Classic, Gospel ...
