My C4 is in park when the trans. shift arm is toward the rear of the car. The shift arm also is aimed up, not down. I dont know how the AOD is set up, or how you will attach the cable to it.....fab a bracket? My c4 came out of a Granada, so the Granada cable bolted to two threaded bosses on the bell housing. Lastly, the shift selector in the car has P,R, N, D, 2,1. I dont know if the AOD has an extra position not indicated? Still, getting a cable around the headers might be easier than fabricating linkage, and all the points of attachment it will need. My cable is almost done.....I will crawl under it and finish this weekend if it doesnt rain the whole time! Then I can post a pic and the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat.

    This method might work too:

Its done, and it seems to work. Without a road test, I am not absolute.....but it goes from low to park, and checking the lever on the trans, the selector inside is not lying. One step closer to the road!!

Looks to me like a piece of flat bar steel bent 90 degrees with a hole drilled in it and a smaller "fork" of metal to hold the cable in place that is probably bolted/screwed on.
