Hi, I'm converting my automatic mav into a stick... Im just wondering if the parts I need for this can only be obtained from a Maverick/comet... or if I could get something out of a mustang or something comparable. Another question I have is: If I buy the clutch pedal assembly from someone, will it come with the linkage, or will I have to find that in another maverick/comet... or can I actually get the linkage out of a mustang or, again, something comparable?

(I know its long-winded, but thanks!)

I'm savinig up parts for this same swap. The best way I found to do this is to finid a doner standard shift Mav or Comet and grab all the pedals, brakets and linkages(there's a ton of six cylinder Mav's out there with pedals) and then buy an after market Z bar or convert it to a cable clutch. At least this is what seemed most doable. I've already obtained the pedals and linkages. I went ahead and bout the three speed tranny and engine out of the car as well. It gave me a spare 250 engine to mess around with(I'm running a six) and a bell that should work with an early 302. Keep in mind, after doing this I am still finding myself longing for a V8. I may still go with a V8 and I want a 4 or 5 speed tranny as well. I do have a lot of parts that I may not use but I also have a lot of parts that I plan on using. I am building a 250 six with a 2V head. The parts were cheap enough no matter which way I end up and I made sure I had every part off of the pedal assembly all the way back to the trans. If I don't use it all, oh well. I paid $300 for the whol kit a kabootle.

When i converted my '73, i couldn't find a 3 spd. mav localy, and i was flat broke (poor student syndrome) so i couldn't afford to but alot of aftermarket stuff. I ended up getting a clutch pedal out of a mid '60s falcon and modifying it to fit. Worked perfect. Since i couldn't find a z-bar for a 250 anywhere, i ended up getting a z-bar from a 200 and choping it down to the 250 length, cutting the arm off, and rewelding it back in the correct spot. It was a lot of work, and i don't recomend it unless you have to. If you have a 302, its alot easier to find stuff for it. If you can, convert to a cable or hydraulic clutch, its less complicated and gives more clearance for headers and other goodys.

    P.S. GO WILDCATS!!!:rofl2: lol j/k

The only place to source a 'bolt-in' conversion for your car is a V8 Mav/Com. Gotta get every part. Much of the V8 stuff is unique to V8 cars.
    That's the bolt-in route.

When I converted my 75, I used a Stang clutch pedal and hybrid it right into my auto tranny pedal support. I had to do cutting and welding, and I had to reshape the auto brake pedal into a clone of a manual brake pedal.
Then I used all the linkage from a V8 Comet.

I have also seen 5.0 Mustang pedals in a Maverick, but they were also using the donor car's T5 tranny and cable.
