I can't seem to locate my clutch pedal to Z-bar rod and boot anywhere. (I borrowed a photo to illustrate, rod / boot highlighted in yellow). Assuming I need to get a new one, does anyone know if there is a Mustang one that interchanges with the Mav / Com one? Or is there a difference between the v8 and i6 rods? (I know the Z bars are different but don't know if the clutch rods are) Thanks
According to the 65-72 Master Parts Catalog, the clutch pedal to equalizer bar is 12", the Mustangs are any where from 3/8"-5" longer than the Maverick part. 69-70 big block being the shortest of them all. You didn't state what year bellhousing but some 66-68 Mustang 6 cyl and BBF did use the same boot as the Maverick.
* Bellhousing is a 71 Mustang 351, but I meant the little rubber thing that goes on the firewall that the rod goes through when I said boot. I thought I read that '69-'70 390 Stangs were the same but can't find the reference. Hmmmm might have to fab something *or keep digging.
* Thanks again, I agree, I should be able to make the 3/8" longer one work - probably that much play in my linkage...
Once upon a time I used the longer Mustang rod. Just sectioned about an inch out of the middle and welded it back together. The rod is always in compression so it's not gonna break or anything.
