The newer Holleys are far better than the old ones. Better gaskets, mostly. The old Holleys were notorious leakers with the old cork gaskets. That's all a thing of the past now. That Summit carb is a remake of the Old Holley 4010 carb, which was sort of a hybrid carb based on both the Holley and Autolite carbs. It's similar to the Autolite 4100, but far more tuneable.

I just bought a edelbrock intake and 600 cfm carb from summit and they included a 14X3" aircleaner free. Just give them a car and they can tell you the best way to go.

I prefer to use a namebrand proven part. I'm not sure where the summit parts are made. They might be a off-shore product. Edelbrock has a proven on and off track record. I am using the Edelbrock 600 electric choke carb also, mainly because I like them and their drivability. I'm not building a race engine, just want a good driver with a little extra pop.:tiphat:

I'm am not a fan of the Summit carbs. They are based on a old Holley design that was very troublesome and was discontinued.I personally took a 6 month old Summit brand carb off a friends maverick and installed a 10 year old traditional 600 Holley on it.The improvement was noticeable right away. The Summit carb probably could be modified to work well but i would rather stick with what is simple and works.

Their Carb is a Holley knock off and their intakes are Chinese edelbrock knock offs. Someone on here did a write up on a summit intake you can search for it or i'll get you the link tomorrow. The ports didn't line up and the casting was bad.

Summit is a great company though, it's a shame some of their products dont live up to their name. It's sometimes hard buying their brand stuff, some is good rebadged versions but others are just knock offs.

I can't say about the intake, but I put one of their carbs on the 460 in my motorhome, and I've been satisfied with it. Granted it's stock and not a hot rod, but it pulls great and opens up when it needs to. It was machined nicely and bolted down without any leaks. Maybe the first intakes had quality control issues? If they all were that bad, I don't think they would continue to sell them because they would all be sent back.

As much as most of us don't like it, we're a global society now. Finding 100% USA made items anymore is just about impossible. Just have to find the best stuff that works and live with it I guess, or just buy used USA items.

I will give a thumbs up on the Elderbrock stuff. I have ran numerous of their intakes over the years and I am generally very satisfied with them. The only one I was not really happy with was one I put on the truck and that ended up being my fault for not paying attention to the RPM range.

    Hope this helps,
    Bobo
