I need to know what driveshaft will interchange with my 71 mav. I have the stock 170cyl. shaft in currently but I just put a 302 with a 9" Rear in. I think it needs a bigger in diam. shaft then the 6cyl. Motor has about 350hp.

That driveshaft will hold up a lot longer that you might think. In the late 70's I raced a 71 Comet that ran 12.50's with the stock driveshaft and never had a problem with it. I am currently running a Maverick with a 421W and the stock driveshaft.

I have one from a mid '80's 5.0L Mustang...just changed the u-joints and yoke to match and it works great!

The early 6 cylinder 'shafts were tiny compared to even the stock V8 shafts. But yeah, I beat the crap out of my original 6-banger shaft with several V8s and never hurt it.
