It's alright that you have a chevy motor in it for a while, I had a 55' Ford pickup with a nova subframe and a 350, it was a fun truck, the fact that it ran decent was the only thing that prevented a 302 from being under the hood. Was a great cruiser, but we needed some space for our boat (which is powered by a 351W, 1978 Ski Supreme) then we found room for it up north so we were looking for a new rod, and we narrowed it down to either an old windsor-powered lightning or a pro stock Maverick, we made a wiser decision and picked the Maverick (cause it'd be a fun car and a real head turner) anyway, just get it on the street first, then you can tear that chevy crap out and put in a real motor.

If you want to put a 6 in it, the 300 out of a truck would be the only choice IMO. I'd pick up a late model one with all the EFI stuff and swap it in.

I have a pretty well built 302 I'd sell you. Its got a good C4 behind it also.

I think I've ran across a 460 to throw into my mustang, so if I do go that way we could make a deal on that motor/tranny.

I also have a 351w on a stand in my garage. It needs rebuilt, but the crank and bores looked good. Could proboally just polish the crank and hone the bores and be good. It'd need a intake and heads tho. We threw those away

Id love to get a v8 for it, but i have one dollar in my wallet. I cant get a job without a car, cant have a car without money, and that's hard to get without a job. so i gotta do what i can when i can with what i can. if i get it close to being ready and can't afford a new motor, ill put the chevy in it but im not gonna plan around the chevy like i was. just had an idea. Mr. mathis is fixin up a jeep and has a busted 350 hes tryin to put in it. he's got a lot of old cars and a huge shop, so maybe i can see if he has a good ford motor hed be willin to trade for a good 350... Maybe. I'll try it and tell you guys how it works out after monday. but if that doesnt work, i may be able to sell the 350 to make some money and then i may be able to buy one of those ford motors from ya.

i didn't get to talk to mr. mathis today. we were stuck in the class learnin about automotive paint. I did talk to mr. pendley about the wagon, im gonna show him some pics i took on my phone tomorrow. after i described it to him, he said we could get it in there this year and i was like "i don't think it'll move..." and he said we could tow it in. i think he's a little excited about it. he said if i ever get tired of it he'd buy it off me. He's the third person to offer to buy it sight unseen. and he's tryin to get it in there me bein a first year student, and under normal circumstances id have to wait untill the second and third year students all got what they wanted to get done done. I'm excited.

Are you taking AUtobody in Conway?

Just curious I took 2 years there.

If your going to work on it at the school, do NOT let them make it a project car. You'll get some of the guys that suck or dont care that much working on it.

Do it like we did quite a few cars there. You get to pick who works on it, the teacher helps also, and you get graded on it also

thats what i plan to do. there's one guy especially i don't want working on it. he follows me all the time talkin bout his "super" ford ranger that "has twice the horsepower of any V-8", and "gets twice the gas mileage of a regular ranger 4-cylinder" and is supposed to be some kind of super collectors item. Oh, and its bone stock, his dad's just "tweaked" a few things, it has over a million miles on it, and has never had any problems except the water pump had to be replaced, but while it was at his dad's, his dad's neighbor tried to steal the steering column and tore it up. He gives me b.s. like that all the time, and i tell him its b.s. and he just keeps on. I can't get away from him. so ima pick about everyone but him if the teacher would let me. I already told him i don't want him workin on my stuff, cause he thinks that after he finishes fixin a dent, its fun to make another one.
edit: forgot to add, yes its the auto body at conway career center. "the only reason i still go to school"

Well, after I haven't been able to get on the forum for a while, because for some reason it would say it couldnt find the server no matter how many times id refresh it or what links i would try to use, so now its time for a long overdue update:
First off, the door is now up there being worked on, and there was a lot more body filler than i expected, plus the entire bottom section of the door will have to be replaced. also, i may have found a 302 for the wagon. my uncle has a friend in texas who buys old cars just cause he feels like it (LUCKY) and he sends some up this way for uncle jeremy to paint. well, he sold him a 302 mustang but it had a six put in it. now he sent him a 49 ford to paint and it has the 302 in it, and he said uncle jeremy could keep it, but uncle jeremy doesn't think he wants it and aunt jennifer doesn't want him to have anymore car junk around the yard. And joe in texas is wanting uncle jeremy to put in chevy motor mounts so he can put in a 350. Well, i thought, if he wants a 350 and he doesn't want the 302, maybe we can negotiate a trade.
Now for the wagon itself: Mr. Pendley wants me to bring some more parts up there and let some of the better students get some practice on some good ole-fasioned heavy-gauge steel. Well, free labor, and a speedier fix on the wagon, plus its the students who actually care, I figure "why should i have all the fun?" so if dad's off work this friday i'll cart in a couple fenders and another door, and maybe a hood. who knows, if he can secure a spot, i may take the whole wagon up there. hopefully... :)

sweet looking wagon man when i was in high school the auto body and auto mechanics classes had a bunch of morons in them. i was sitting in class one day and on of the students sitting really close to me started to smoke a little pot. after class i went and got the school cop and i never saw that student again. just wish my high school auto class was better than what i got. so enjoy it.

yea. we got a few like that. only problem is the staff wont do anything. only thing turnin em in would do would be get them mad at me, and they really aren't that bad. they go smoke on the baseball field, but they aren't bad people. i have however met the type who smoke the stuff and aren't too pleasant, but they aren't there. to me, what they smoke is their business so long as they don't try to get me on the stuff.
About the wagon though, my dad got the other door and the fenders up there. its all in rough shape, but mr. pendley is gonna let me paint the door up there to get some practice in that. he'd let me paint more but the years almost out, and they got other projects and i don't think id be able to get the rest of the stuff enough to get them painted. in short, Progress is progressing, and it looks like the wagon will live again, and sooner than i thought.

thats sweet i wish i was closer i would come give you a hand. i am more into traditional rods then anything else. it's just that my first car was a 73 comet (which i still have) so i'm really into the mavs too. wish i had room for a late 50's project right now.
