Hello, I was just wondering what everyone has for exhaust on their cars. I have a 74Maverick I am building, putting a 302 in it, just trying to plan out what to do exhaust wise. Car is going to be kinda a street rod type deal (Street/strip car) I have Hooker Headers for it. Kinda thinking of doing a side exit exhaust right before the rear wheels. Anyone ever do this on a Maverick? Thanks, Gareth
if you do them that way use same side inlet/outlet mufflers. That way you wont have to worry about ground clerance. Look up the 2000 cobra R exhaust to know what I mean. Thrush along with flowmaster make them. C4 vettes used the same style.
I was going to do that but mine will sit to low. Im just going with my hedders into a hedder muffler and adding a 3ft long tube to the end of that with a turn down....it will all be 3in
Yea, I was thinking the header mufflers too. And that was the other idea was the turn down. Make it loud
3 inch may be over kill depending on your engine set up but most will perform better with 2.5 inch at most to help with scavenging exhaust out of cylinders with a good set of headers and proper exhaust you can find substantial power gains in the fact that a small amount of back pressure will help with savaging and actually in ideal situation it will assist in pulling the piston up. Think of it as a vacuum hence the real advantage of an x pipe is for helping with scavenging
I am using Headman short tube headers with 2 1/4" pipe and magnaflow muflers. Ending behind the rear axle somewhere. Probably behind the rear tires.
Yeah I know I need more back pressure but I won't be at the strip very much....mostly just cruising and having it in shows. I have flow tech long tube hedders and have a hefty Cam in there but have not been able to fire the motor yet. Just got the motor compartment painted Monday. So it will run good but I want it to sound even meaner than it really is lol
I'm running the normal.Headman 1 3/4 headers 2.5"pipe 2 chamber Flowmaster 40 series with dumps.Heres the noise.
It helps out the torque numbers if there is a little back pressure, and it helps the scavenging of exhaust. The cross over pipe helps also helps equalize exhaust flow increasing hp. Bigger isn't always better. You need to size the exhaust system to match up with the hp of the motor and the air flow of all of the components used, such as carb, intake, and heads and headers.
thats exactally what I was told but I figured since I already have 3in pipe and it sounded pretty bad ass before all the head work and the big cam I cant wait till I hear it fire up!
