The 2012 Ford Interceptor is a Taurus, albiet a beefed up, specially modified for law enforcement Taurus... Here's the article

    http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/12/police-interceptor-ford-unveiled/

    It's quite a car, but not a full frame, rear-wheel drive or a V-8

I'd love to see how the top of the line pursuit version with SHO twin-turbo and AWD performs

    well they screwed that up.......

I remember all the stuff I read even up to a year or so ago said it would be rwd....and possibly frame not unitbody......

oh well I stand corrected obviously...

not that an AWD turbo charged car isn't cool

You actually may have not been too far off.

About a year or so back, I read where Ford was using a new Lincoln platform RWD, V-8 as a possible replacement for the Vic, but this was still while the Vic's Panther platform was just being phased out to "Fleet only" availability, but not yet completely canceled.

It always happens....the powers that be chip a good idea down from a RWD, V-8, to a front-wheelin' V-6 for economy-over-tough duty, or they "give in" and allow a little for Law-enforcement use, but don't think it out, like letting the new Impalas carry a V-8 option......except it was still a front-wheel drive, with torque-steer and a penchant for breaking CV joints making any advantage of a V-8 useless.

Dodge was the only one that stepped up with a RWD, V-8 option, because they they had one available with the Charger/Magnum......with the RWD, V-8 Caprice/Impala SS long dead and the legendary Crown Vic on it's way out, Ford and Chevy were left with their line-up of front-wheeler, V/6 platforms to choose from, neither really willing to build a car specifically for law enforcement use unless they can be sure it would sell to the general public enough to make them money.

You know, come to think of it......remember how upset so many people were that Dodge made the muscle car Charger a 4-door?, and the odd, but brilliant choice of a sport wagon Magnum?......they may well have been thinking ahead with fleet duty, particularly law enforcement in mind.

Rumors about Ford contemplating a full-frame RWD with V-8 option replacement for the Crown Vic start swirling, but they end up with a beefed-up uni-bodied front/all-wheeler V-6 Taurus. Now the ruimors are about Chevy's return to the Caprice with fleet and law-enforcement in mind.....but considering Chevy's lame ideas and bad decisions of late (killing the RWD V-8 Caprice/Impala SS, the great return and quick re-death of the legendary GTO, The one-off SSR "sort-of" truck with no aftermarket or factory parts availability, and of course, killing off the Camaro/Firebird,....then announcing the "new" Camaro every year for 5 years while Ford and Dodge were actuallly building/selling Mustangs, Hemi Chargers, Magnums and Challengers) I doubt the Caprice will mark the return of a full-frame RWD, V-8 optioned platform from GM.....probably end up borrowing one of the Buick paltforms for another larger uni-body, front-wheeler V-6 that kind of looks like the old Cop Caprice.

We need a fleet/law enfiorcement only manufacturerer to develop and build civil-duty specific cars......Like Checker did with taxi cabs.

As for me, I'm obviously a Crown Vic fan......but with their loss, I'm all for the Hemi Chargers for Police Duty.

    I like this idea too.
Here's the Carbon Motors E7 cruiser. To me, it looks like something from a post-apocalyptic movie, but the specs are cool.
