i have 6 or 6.5 in round speakers in my kick panels and 6x9 in in the back dash and it sounds pretty good but i would like to put a speaker back into the dash so that all the sound up front isnt coming from the floor
^those look like 6.5's, I've got 5.25 in the kick panels and they fit like there factory speakers, but i plan on upgrade'n to 6.5's there too.......
If you remove the center duct and move the duct housing out the way you can get to the speaker from there, thats how I removed mine, but its a job...lol I was going to put mine in the kick panels, but the plastic is so brittle I know if Id try it it would just fall to pieces.
If mounting speakers in the front kick panels, the cars prior to 73 have different sheet metal behind them. You might need to trim a bit. I installed 4.5 up front, attached to the kick panels themselves. Had to make a small amount of magnet clearance. Cars from 73-on have provisions for speakers stamped into them. Some kick panels from later cars have factory speaker grilles also, but I am not sure if they work completely with the earlier tray-type dash.
I just bought a Sony xplod at Wal-Mart , came with 2 ,6- 1/2 speakers and 2 6x9 speakers for $90 bucks. I hope install them this weekend maybe they will sound ok.
i plan to buy the same system also mostly just to get some music in my car and get it installed before i start putting alot of money into it. let me kno how that goes cause its gonna be a couple months before i get started on mine
I put 5.25 in my 73's kickpanels. I like that better for stero seperation than spkr's in the dash grille. I had cut-outs in the metal. My spkr's depth caused them to hit the metal so I had to use foam spkr cones to bring them off the metal. If it's a DIY install, I wud'nt go over 5.25 unless I was looking for a installion challenge - If I was having i t professional done I wud go for whatever they cud put there. I suppose it depends on what caliber of sound one is trying to achieve.
77 looking to buy speakers for the dash and rear deck in a 77 maverick, anyone know the specs on those?
I'm installing 4 1/2" in the front kick panels and 6x9's in the rear. If you take off the kick panels there should be a place to mount the smaller speakers. Jason
