Keep the mechanical pump I just went through same thing 2days ago put on a new fuel pump $53 ,and a clear inline fuel filter before the pump car runs like a champ
Bullshit. I've used two of those "cheap" electrics now for the past 20 years in two vehicles. First was a 30 gal/hr Purolator, the one in my 77 Comet is a 35 gla/hr Mr Gasket, The Purolator lasted the whole 10 years I had a V8 in my 89 Ranger (till I sold it) The Mr Gasket has been on the job in the Comet for 8-9 years now.
The low pressure electrics are a one wire hookup. Run that one wire from the ignition to the pump. Fittings ? They come with the pump. All you'll need is maybe a foot of fuel hose to plumb it.
The quality of the pumps today are horrible. I have used multiple cheap pumps such as the Mr. Gasket and have them fail within a few months. That was with a new fuel tank, clean gas, proper wiring and positioning. I don't waste my money on them now.
