Craig - How can I tell for sure that the engine light is due to low oil pressure? The engine light comes on and stays on after the engine has been running for about 10 minutes. The car is not loosing any oil, it is clean and the engine temp stays within the normal range for being in 110 degrees. What can be done to correct low oil pressure? Could it also be a vacum leak in the carb? Does anyone have a 1976 owners manual that says anything about the engine light ? (other than it saying to take it in to your local Ford dealer).
In my Chilton's manual, it lists the Fuel Tank capacities as follows for all models (2 and 4 door): 1970: 16 Gals 1971: 15 Gals 1972: 15 Gals 1973: 15 Gals 1974: 15 Gals 1975: 16 Gals 1976: 19.2 Gals 1977: 16 Gals Hope this helps you out some. -Corbin
In later Mavericks, the 'Engine' light was connected to both the coolant temp sensor AND the oil pressure sensor...a cost cutting measure, I guess instead of having separate lights like the earlier ones...so...the problem could possibly be low oil pressure or high coolant temperature....
The engine light coming on was due to the water temp. I was at a buddy's house today and we tested the anti freeze for strenght and the water looked like mud! We flushed the raditator 3 times and put in fresh anti freeze and it runs alot cooler (no engine light now!) I was also having a problem with my A/C not staying on and when I giggled the wiring harness the compressor would kick on and off. Took the hole thing out and tighened up connection to the switch and that workds good now too. That whole unit is a PAIN to get out through the front!!
