205 or 215 is a good size for a daily driver. ran those on the cougar and it handled really well. im running 225/14 on the grabber but they are a tight fit. if my suspension was off just a little the rears would rub the springs and the fronts would hit the steering arms when i turned. also, the big o in newark was always good to my uncle and I. dont go to the one in Union City though.
Roz: I odered the B.F.Goodrich T/A 205/70R14 from Costco , $55.00 ea, they mounted them, I did not like the looks, they took them off and mounted 215/70R14, looks good, they did not charge me any extra for this, I have the T/A's on all the Mav's the other's are 15"
I think those prices are high - $370 ??? I got a quote from Walmart super center for a Goodrich T/A P205/60/15 @ $66.96 each + mount and balance if needed. I'm using that size on the front and it is close to what you were using. I have used Firestone redlines for some restorations. Don't even want to tell you about those prices
I tend to steer clear of Wal-Mart tires...I have never bought them, but my dad has (trying to be cheap) and they went "out of round" within the first couple hundred miles. You know, when you start to get bumps in odd places on the tread? He took them back and they gave him another set. They went out within 1000 miles also. They finally gave him his money back and he when to Discount Tire and paid a little more for tires that lasted. I just figured they sold cheaper versions of the real thing at Wal-Mart, and "you get what you pay for".
I asked the tire guy at Wally world about something I heard on the news - that they sell old stock that the real dealers return after they sit around too long. He said it used to be that way years ago, and Sam's Clubs might get some old stock yet, but everything that they get in now, they order out and it all comes from the same warehouse that any Goodrich dealer gets his from.
Notice how you cannot go to Wal-Mart and get BFG T/A Radials? I did find T/A Radials on the website, but in the store, you get some off name "too cool 4U Radials" which you have never heard of. Maybe it is just a regional issue?
BFG -T/A Radials - They have a master catalog that you order them from. You can even get the drag radials if you want. Take a look at it the next time you are in there. 100's of tire brands.
I will try that. I didn't know you could buy "good" tires from Wal-Mart or Sams. I have a card for sams, and when I went to look, and told the guy what I was looking for, he kept showing me the crap tires. After tonight's trip to the track, I might invest in some drag radials. I couldn't get traction for crap. Of course, my T/As are below the wear bar, basically stiff slicks...
I don't know about a Sams Club, but at the Super Wal-Marts, they have the catalogs. You can look online too I believe. Drag tires from Wally World - what next!
I emailed B F Goodrich not long ago about one of their tires that Wal Mart was selling because there was no info about them on Goodrich's website. Goodrich responded that they and other tire makers supply Wal Mart with tires that "don't have all of the features" that their tires usually have. Cheaper made tires so Wal Mart can sell for less. That's not to say all the tires they sell are like that, but you have to research the different models.
I'm probably the only person in the USA who has never been in a Wal Mart. I have no interest in big box stores that put mom & pop shop owners out of business . I'd rather buy from a local tire store, even if it costs a few dollars more. Big O is a franchise, so each one is locally owned. There are a couple of other local stores I've checked too. But with all the problems Firestone had a few years ago, it is difficult to find a store around here that carries them. Roz
