I envy you Roz, you are pure blooded American, through and through. In my shopping area, though, the "big box stores" have already put the mom and pops out of business...so Wally World it is, for all our shopping needs...freezer burnt veggies and flavorless meats included.
Wal-Mart might put some mom & pops out of business ... but it creates lots more Americans jobs .... Truck drivers, construction workers, payroll companies, Wal-mart employees, dock workers, etc .... Wal-marts are not kept full and built by small elves overnight.
Tom, you said you payed $55 a tire, I called up Costco earlier and they gave me a price for BF Goodrich Radial T/A's in 215/70/14 $85 a tire. And I thought Walmart was high.
I worked at wal-mart a couple of times, they sell the name stuff, but as someone stated,it has been "watered down" in order for wal-mart to sell it cheaper. Lucite paint didn't used to be as thick as the paint store Lucite, the tires usually don't have the tread depth as the tire stores. At the time there was some other things, but can't remember them at this time. Years ago wal-mart worked for the customers business, now they have it and they work for wal-marts big profits. They dictate what you buy and how much,I recently needed 2 batteries apparently wal-mart thought I needed at least 4 or more because that's the only way they stocked them. I have actually got to the point I hate their stores and ways of doing business. Sorry about the hi-jack, but I get riled eveytime wal-mart is mentioned.

The sand bags are across the street from my house, as you can see we live on a hillside, and I guess the guy has a back yard that is below grade, and when the heavy rain comes it gets flooded,so he puts out the bags, must be a pain in the butt. Back to the Tires, I wounder which one's Roz will get, Roz?
I was at the Good Guys show in Pleasanton yesterday. I looked at tires. Lots of cars there had the Goodrich T/A Radials. They stood out because of the raised white letters, but I saw some with black letters too. Most were 235/60R15, and looked really sharp in that size. A little Sunbeam had 185/60R13, which looked cute. A Chevy Nova had the size closest to what I'm looking for, 215/70R14, and they looked OK. I did not see any Firestone Indy 500's. So what does that say? I know the tire thread is supposed to be cosmetic only, but you don't buy tires just for looks. I want good looking tires that will drive and handle well. I suppose all these sporty cars with T/A Radials must be a testimonial to how well they perform too, but I'd like to know how well the T/As perform, and if size affects performance. Can I ask that in this thread, or should I start another thread in the General or Technical forum? Roz
Since there aren't many name brand RWL tires out there (lots of house brands) ... I bought mine solely based on looks, lettering style & size .... Hoosier Radial GT's and Firestone Indy 500's ....
Roz! Chezzz! Just buy the T/A's and be done with it , You can not go wrong, there a good trie, they look good, they are the one you need to buy.
Tom, I'm a researcher (hence PhD). I like to get all the information I can before making a decision, and even then I usually find something wrong with whatever decision I make. So put up with me a little. Here's why I'm concerned about the T/A Radials. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=PAS That's the link to the Tirerack survey results. The T/A's scored well, but were fifth out of seven. That means four tires were rated better, with the Firestone Indy 500's first. Also I like the looks of the Firestone's better. Yours look good, but Dan's look better (my opinion anyway). There were a few negative reviews on the Firestone's, and I'd like some answers to these. The main one was lack of sidewall stiffness that caused tire squirm in turns. I wonder if that is affected by tire size. Would a 70 aspect tire be more susceptible to tire squirm than a 60, or would a 15" be more susceptible than a 14"? I'll buy something eventually, but humor me. I'm an educator. I like questions and answers. Don't worry you will not be graded. Roz
