I got a complete front end suspension and rear end from a 78 Granada... for the price of buying a radiator on my employee discount and installing it for a guy. :Handshake I have some questions: The front end assembly is for power steering... my mav is a 72, non p/s What components are beefier and can be used on the Mav? (other than the spindles, hub, & brake assembly?) Is the sway bar any better, or any other front suspension components?? For the rearend, I want the car to run 12s or 13s in the quarter, and still be a street driver. Will the 8 inch hold up to that, if the only mods i do are to put in 3:70 gears? Also, if anybody knows, will the coil springs work if they were from a 6 cyl Granada? It's going into the 72 Mav with soon-to-be 302. I appreciate everyone's help here, I'm new to the Maverick as a whole....
Most of that will transfer over...look at Mustangs as well for parts...good luck on the project, take pics, and keep us posted!
I dont think the sway bar is a direct bolt-in to begin with and since the granada is 6cylinder then most/if not all fo the suspension will be the same as your mav. and why swap coil springs from a 6cylinder granada to a 6cylinder car? you'll get the same effect with no matter which ones you use. the 6cylinder coil springs in ur mav will work fine for your V8, it'll just lower the front a lil about.... about 3/4 to an inch. if you're wanting a 'beefier' suspension, then try to locate a V8 car for the coil springs. and keep in mind that most V8 cars use the same sway bar as the 6cylinder ones. hope this helps. good luck and keep us posted
This depends on what kind of tires you will run at the track. If they are sticky slicks you may run into trouble eventually with the stock axles. Ask me how I know...
Just use the spindles and brakes from the front. Those are the key parts from this Granada. If you are looking at the 8" rear so you can convert to 5 lugs, then just drop the rear into your leaf springs. If you are looking for the power steering as well, someone else will have to share the details of that with you...
The Granada has a wider chassis, so the sway-bar is too wide. What size 6-cylinder does your Maverick have? If it's the 250, the springs are the same as the V-8 springs. If it's a 200, the Granada's springs will be stiffer than what you already have in your Maverick. The 8-inch is a very strong rear-end, but I wouldn't run it in a 12-second car. You'd better send it (Granada) to me instead, since my car will only run high 14s... Since power steering was an option for your car, all the Granada power steering stuff should swap over to it...
I ran 12's for a few years on a stock 8" w/3.55s/ET streets.Eventually warped the housing/axle tube.That was leaving on a 150 NOS shot too,so it shocked the suspension pretty hard.Naturally aspirated 12s-13s,no trans brake(or manual trans),it should live a long time.
Ok, well, I can't even tell what size of a six it is. The stickers are all gone, though I haven't tried the VIN yet. I DO know that it has a 105 HP sticker on the air cleaner, so I assume it is the smallest six ever put in a Mav. Whoo-boy, I'll bet I'd clean up the streets with that massive amount of HP Also, now that I've got the 8-inch, I'm curious what kind of rear-end is stock in this thing... it looks like a toy compared to the eight. Help me here, I'm not a Ford guy.... yet.
