You'll also need the Granada outer tie rods, hoses w/mounting brackets, and master cylinder. And some people find they work better with the disc/drum proportioning valve, others say the drum/drum part works ok.
Why would he need the Granada outer tie-rod ends?? If they are the same as Maverick spindles, then the Maverick tie-rod ends should work... :confused:
Why would he need the Granada outer tie-rod ends?? The Granada and 75 - 77 Maverick disc spindles use a different size outer tie rod than the early Maverick. The threaded end that goes into the adjuster sleeve is the same but the stud that goes into the spindle is a different taper and I think it's slightly longer.
Well I put '75 Maverick spindles on my '73 14 years ago and I did not have to change tie-rod ends so... :confused:
I've seen some discussions where people say you have to change them, some say you don't have to change them, and some even say you may or may not have to change them (really commited there ). My interchange manual shows two different part number tie rods depending on the year/spindle. I personally would change to the suggested part for peace of mind. If yours works ok, good.
It has me really curious. Since the disc brake upgrade is the most common and most necessary on early Mavericks/Comets, it would be nice to have all of the absolute factual information for a tech article...
As far as the mounting brackets for the hoses, I can't see any way to make the Granada ones fit the existing holes on the Mav chassis without modification. Any input from anyone who's done it?
tie rod ends are cheap. so in my opinion, whatever car your donor is, go to the parts store and ask for new tie rod ends for the year of your donor. then your mav will have new tie rod ends. one thing also is to make sure you ask for a manual brakes master cyl. easier pressure to stop the car. best of luck.

Not trying to thread jack here, just trying to add to this discussion....I have a Monarch with power brakes as a donor, but my Mav is manual brakes...Do I just use the stock Mav manual master cylinder or what? Actually, not the stock one itself, its getting a new one. But do I use the Mav style? Thanks, AC
You can, but I would reccomend using a Maverick manual disc-brake master cylinder. Just make sure you get the proper length push-rod because if it's too long (the disc masters have longer rods), then your pedal will be much too high. The disc master cylinder has the required larger capacity reservoir for the extra fluid that is displaced by the calipers. The fittings are a different size on the disc M/C from the drum unit, so you'll either have to reflare the ends of the brake lines with the proper size fittings, swap the lines altogether...
disc swap bmcdaniel is absolutely rite. My interchange book also shows different part # for the outer tierods. different taper on 70 to 73 with drumto drum. maple Mav: I used the stock flex line bracket from my mav(72). I just changed the small length brake line to make a neater looking system instead of using xtre long flex lines to bend in a S shape If you have the old master and the new 1 you can see what is needed to convert the brake lines to the newer, lger, master cly with its fittings.
