I have a 76 Comet with the plain grill lights, what years of car have the fancier looking grill lights that I can swap in? I know 75 and before look to have them, but do they interchange, and are they the same as the maverick ones?

All the grilles have the same size turn signal / sport lamp holes in them, and you can swap the parts around as you wish. The heavier sport lamps need the extra bracket that bolts up the rear of the lamp and to the radiator support. Without this bracket the grille can break from the weight of the lamp assembly. Also needed to convert to a sport lamp is the wiring, toggle switch and a relay helps too.

As for plain turn signals, not sport lamps, they came in amber, clear, and fluted clear. There is also the bezel with and without crosshairs. If you just want to swap around the different lenses for turn signals, no other changes to the car are needed, just swap to whatever you like best.

Just to add to what Eric said, the early lights with the removable lens are glass, while the one piece units are plastic.

You can't just change the lens if you have the plastic ones, you have to change the whole assembly to the early style, and they just bolt in.

I used a set of early lights{71-72} on a later grill {74} in my car when I changed it to a small bumper. However, I didn't hook them up as Sport lights, I used them as turn signals/parking lamps. I also used the under the bumper lights as parking lamps only. I simply spliced in a new wire from the park lamp side to go to the lower lights. The grill lamps plugged into the existing plugs.
