Some of you Maverick/Comet collectors might can answer this. The support that goes from the hood latch down to the bumper on my 71 Comet is made from plastic and the top attachment bolt hole is broken. This support is used to bolt and support the grill. I have another one that is made from steel. When I got the car, the front end was kind of hap-hazzardly put together and just hanging there. Can someone tell me the difference in the early ones VS. the newer ones? Pictures would be great but I need to figure out how these parts go together and which ones to use. Also, are there differences between the Maverick and Comet pieces?
Any help in pointing me in the right direction is really appreciated.

I've never seen a plastic one, all mine have been metal. As far as I can tell the Comet and the Maverick used the same part, it was the grill that made up the difference. (But I've only had one Comet, and it was a 74)

The center of the Comet grill has a plastic support that goes between the grill and the metal hood support. Mavericks did not have this plastic piece. I believe this is what you are referring to.

    Re:

Yes, looking at it closer today, I found that it is a plastic piece that bolts to the metal support. The top hole on this piece is busted off. I guess this is my latest need for getting the front grill all tight and tidy.

The other piece I'm needing for the front end is the driver side outer most bumper bracket. The one off of my car is missing. I was going to try and remove the passenger side bracket and just use two instead of the three bumper supports on each side but I couldn't figure out how to remove or back up the nut that sits inside the frame with a wrench. When I tried to loosen it the whole bolt just turned not allowing the bolt to come out. Is that nut supposed to be tacked or welded to the frame or is there a way of getting a wrench on it. I know you guys have worked on these brackets. How do you get the thing apart.
