hey everyone do you know if a handbrake setup can be borrowed from another ford car? the pedal parking brake is a PITA,and I'd really like to replace it as a handbrake as modern cars have. Has anyone of you done this? Isaac
Hi Isaac, If I remember correctly, the Ford Pinto had a handbrake on the transmission tunnel, just behind the floor shifter. You can adapt anything with enough ingenuity (and luck!). It would be a matter of rerouting the cable to the new location. I don't know if you can find a Pinto in a junkyard in Monterey to get the required pieces. I am thinking you would grab the handbrake assembly and some section of the cable and then figure out how and where to cut the existing cable and mate the two cables together to give you the required action to engage the parking brake. whoa, thanks baldeaglemav, you made it sound not so complicated. I think there might be some pintos here, who knows?
Hi Isaac, Well, in theory it should be somewhat straightforward. But, don't quote me! Good luck, BaldEagleMav
Get under the car and look at it... the cable meets towards the center of the car and goes into one cable there. Could proboally take the cable that goes from there and disconnect it from your foot pedal and move it to about any type of handbrake you want to mount in your floor. Just have to get that cable to not get on the exhaust, and be the proper length.
