found the problem yesterday, after i set the points, i must not have tightened all the way and they came back apart As soon as I put them back to spec settings the thing fired up like no other. I put it all back together and took it for a ride . Very, very, very, very fun to ride around on, haha. I never cleaned the exhaust port or muffler but the thing hit 27mph before I had to slam on my brakes. should be able to hit 30+mph Brakes could use tightening, and I ordered tires and tubes so it's safely drivable. Gonna start cleaning it up in the coming days if weather permits. thanks for the help you guys , I'll post before and after pictures when all is done.
I have an '81 Express I just got running a few months ago. My gas tank had rusted through where the oil/gas reservoir separator metal piece was so I took off the old rusty carb-clogging tank and grafted three lawn mower tanks on it. One for oil, two for gas. I think I'll ditch the oil mixer and grab another splitter from ACE so I can run gas/oil mix in all three 1-qt tanks. Also: Is it just me or is the electrical system on these things a huge pain? Only the battery-charging circuit is rectified (and only half-wave at that) so when I put in nice 6v LED blinkers they all fried in a few miles. Can anyone take a few pictures of the wiring underneath the seat for me? I need to see where the flasher is wired.
I've had my put back and been driving for weeks, the little window is leaking and bottom is starting to rust through on the tank. I would like to see your gas tank setup DC12Volt. I run premix on it, I would rather know I "have" oil than hoping I do . As far as wiring you should check out this guys website/links if you haven't already. http://www.hondaexpressmoped.com/2010/02/honda-express-electrical-wiring-diagram.html I had no wiring problems really with mine, as I have 2 to the headlight, 3 to the tailight/running light, and the oddball bulbs for your speedo/dash. no flashers or turn signals/electronic ignition wires for the 78' model. If you haven't already I would recommend the muffler mod. Cut the side of the muffler open, drill several holes in the piping inside, weld the side back on (shouldnt be seen with the little white shield on the muffler put back on) This boosted me from 28-30mph to 32-35mph on straights. Gives it a dirtbike idle as well, not as Sissy sounding
