    I didn't mean the jr's were 'bad' - :sh*t-eating-grin:

I changed from my ported jr's (which are a amjor improvement
over stock) to the 185's. There was no doubt the AFR's added
more power. That, combined with the less weight they provide,
    really made a noticable difference.

my 02/100ths (worth about .005 on the market these days)

    Quick update on my project:

Deciding which front deep sump pan to order. Canton is probably
the bestest. But my budget says look elsewhere (used?).

I also am going to get the oil filter adapter
(Summit P/N FMS-M6880A50 @ $51.95) to allow the use of the
FL-1A filter. The 6208's interfere with the filter in it's current
location. Trying not to lose all this text here, so without looking I
believe you guys who are running the 6208's are using a smaller
filter (P/N?), this adapter, or a remote oil filtering device?

Hey Rick, are you getting the Windsor Jr's confused with Edelbrock Victor Jr's. The Vic. Jr's are aluminum and have an intake port of 210cc's stock and will support over 500 hp. out of the box. If I am thinking correctly the 185's are called that because they have a 185 cc intake port.......The Vic. Jr's are a much better head then the Windsor Jr's, not even in the same class......

I noticed Thorley makes a pair of headers for V8 Mavericks. Has anyone seen these being used or used them?

I see a lot of people bashing the Victor Jr heads...comparing them to AFR. I still have a set of early Vic. Jrs....and love them. 'Course I just cant go out buying a different set of heads to compare them to the Jrs I have now...at AFR's prices (nearly $2000 for the 225's) they'll have to wait---a while!

Seriously, I think the VJ's will support about as much power as any of us will ever need...in a small-chassis Maverick or Comet. I don't know how much power mine makes, but I'd say close to 600 HP guessing. That's plenty--for now. The car is already a handful.

I saw the Motorsport filter adapter mentioned. I also have to use one. I use a FL-300A filter rather than a FL-1A. I also cut off the little ear so I could turn it about 270 degrees. The "ear" limits how far you can pivot it. Also, some late 70's 3/4 ton vans (460's) had filter adapters on them, but are a different design and you need the block fitting in order to make it all work. The Van adapters do have threaded plugs in them, so I think you could use an oil cooler with it....or screw in a temp sender or pressure sensor. Good thing about the van adapters...you can pretty much turn them any which way you want the filter to point, and with the filter pointed downward, it is STRAIGHT down..not slightly angled as the Motorsport one does. Also, they can be had for about $10 at the junkyards.

I agree, I think the Victor Jr. is a great head......The only thing I don't like is where they mounted the exhaust bolt holes, it really restricts how much portwork can be done to the exhaust port.

CometGT1974 you nailed the weak link of the Vic Jr's. Other then that they are a sweet head, with a CNC 3 stage port work the numbers are VERY impressive.

Now if someone could only get a set of the Vic clones from ebay and have a the same work done you could possible have a set of serious set of racing heads for about 1,800 That was my plan for this off season but at the end of last year I broke a piston and then EVERYTHING else broke, so I had to start from scratch.

Just as I picked up my motor from the speed shop (March 30th same day) I broke my collar bone (playing like a kid) and wouldn’t you know it had to be my right side and I’m right handed.

The new motor is still on the stand but I now can type again and look forward to this week installing the crank and pistons. At 47 I just don’t seem to be healing as fast as I once did.

    As always just my .02
