I just found a 4 door 73' maverick for $150.00, it has the 8 rear I need with 5 lugs and a c-4 mated to a inline six. My question can I use this trans when I do my 302 upgrade? will I have to get a different bell housing and will it hold up to the 302? I do not know if there is a diffrence between a six and a v8 engine trans? :hmmm:Thanks Robert

Only if its the large 250 cid six! if its smaller the bellhousng will be different! In my 72 Grabber I have a 4sp toploader! I pulled an iron bellhousing from a 73 full size Ford van with a 300 cid six.

Myfriend used the big bell housing yes some are smaller and we used it on a C-4 I had rebuilt to hook it up to my 302. Bigger bell housing in a 1976 which came with the 6 cyl and the 5 lug 8 inch rear end.

If the bellhousing will fit then the transmission will work fine. If the transmission has the small bellhousing then it won't last behind a 302.
The C4 behind a 250 is the same as the one behind a 302. The bellhousings are the same. You will need a flexplate (flywheel) for the 302 you have and you can use the 250 converter.
The 170 and 200 use smaller bellhousings and fewer clutch plates in the transmissions. They also use smaller intermediate servos. That makes the C4 from a 170 or 200 too weak for a 302.

Paul you are right I did change my fly wheel and changed my converter but I have a wierd bell housing it is large I suggest the member contact you. You have given him a good detailed description on what he needs to do. Especially if he has had the motor tricked out. Sorry if my information was wrong but my bell housing is very odd. Thanks for setting out info to help him.
