I want to replace my external regulator alternator with a 1 wire internal regulator style. How can I use my original charge light located in the cluster? Any help with a wire diagram would be appreciated. Thanks

AFAIK, you can't, the sensing circuit in alt operates light & that requires more than one wire...

If you use a 3g Ford internally regulated alternator, the "I" circuit performs the same function.

Yeah, but that's 3 wires. LOL

What concerns me is the stock 15 ohm resistor parallel to the indicator light, using some electronic regulators the light burns very dimly at most... Also that 15 ohm resistor is drawing .8A plus another .24A for the 194 lamp that totals just over 1A(why lamp is dim, there is voltage drop occurring in regulator) ... That amount of current is no doubt excessive for the solid state alt sensing circuit to handle...

When I wired the 2G to mine, I cut one end of the the 15 ohm and installed a 470 ohm in series so is connected like the newer vehicles that used these alt... Current draw through resistor is now only .025A so basically all the alt "I" circuit has to handle is the bulb or approx .28A with resistor included... I didn't try mine with the orig circuit so dunno how a 2G(or 3G, regulator is similar) would react to handling 4x current of orig design...

BTW my light is nice and bright and alt charges 14.2v with everything turned on/operating...

BTW #2 using the alt in link provided the resistor(wire) could be cut and no additional resistor necessary...
