I have a 72 comet with a 302 and fmx transmission. I bought a kickdown bar off of ebay that was out of a mustang from the years 70-73, with same motor and tranny. I was just wondering if this would match up or not. I have been working on the parking brake, and I have it all wired up besides that hand brake. Is there any other car like the mustang that I can order or get the hand brake, and cables out of that will match up?
Napa has the parking brake cables that goto the brake drums.I think the cable from the handle is a Maverick only part, I bought on NOS, and it was a Maverick part number. Did you put the FMX in? I would think that if it was made for a Mustang with a FMX, it should work fine.
I have brake cables if you know which ones you need. Email me directly (see below) if I can help. Will an FMX even fit in a Maverick???
assuming the comet and maverick are the same then yes, because thats what the shop ordered and put into mine. they said the numbers matched with the transmission that came out, but wasn't sure if the motor matched the car. as for the cables, the parking brake cables were fabricated all the way up until it was realized that the cable for the brake handle was broken. I think I need from the brake handle to the bottom of the car
I have never seen a heavy cast iron cased FMX in a Maverick/Comet with a 302. I have seen them behind 351W's. I'd check and see if there is a difference between C4 and FMX rods. Seth
they also said that the 302 was from a mustang, was there any cases of a 302 with a fmx transmission being from a mustang?
No 1970-1977 Maverick or 1971-1977 Comet ever came with an FMX. I do have that cable. Email me directly (see below) if I can help.
is it possible that the transmission that was in the comet was a c4 or c6 and a motor pulled out of a mustang and bolted to the original transmission and now a fmx transmission put onto the swapped out motor?
Both the C-6 and FMX are rather large transmissions. I know the C-6 will not fit in the trans tunny without enlarging the trans tunnel.
