I am buying bucket seats from a local salvage yard.
There are ZERO Comets, Mavericks, Granadas, monarchs or Mustang IIs in this yard. Okay, theres ONE Mustang II and it's crap with the windows down for several years. It is mainly newer late model cars.

My choices seem to be new compact cars like Focuses, Cobalts, Ions, and the like. The Focus seats are very nice but before I dump almost $100 into new seats I need to know what I should look for under them. They are fresh and clean from a new car that was wrecked so rust and dirt isn't an issue. what I need to know is measurements for the mounting points.
The mounting brackets are fairly flat.
The factory bench is killing my back.

Well, the nice thing about seats is that people haven't changed size too much over the years, so they're all pretty much the same. Sit in the seats and see if they feel comfortable at all. That's the biggest factor IMO.

After that, it's a simple matter of shimming here and cutting there to get them to bolt up.

I put '88 full power t-bird seats in a '72 pinto. I know other people have used Mazda, Honda, late model cobra, etc, seats in their mavs.

Just to add more of my opinion, the '89 firebird seats I had were the most comfortable and supportive I've ever sat in. Lots of adjustment too.

Some good info here http://www.maverickman.com/SeatInstall.html on getting them on. I have 99, I think, escort seats that I need to put in. They look nice and are comfy. You do have to make sure that you like them, or else you're always gonna be looking for some new ones to put in.:D

So far the Focus seats are the best feeling and they sit high enough. Honestly anything would be an improvement over the bench I have now.

What about the rear seat? I guess just getting it recovered in the matching material would be easiest.

Yeah, I would say just recover the rear bench. Get some hog rings and pliers and you can do it yourself pretty easy. Not a lot of contours on the old bench.

Putting the focus split folding bench in the back would be cool, but I'm not sure how it measures up. That would definitley be an involved project.

Thunderbird SuperCoupe seats are great! I had a T-Bird SC and loved them. I have a set now that I plan to put into one of my cars, but I haven't worked on it. I don't know what kind of fabrication I'll need to do.
