i have a 71 maverick with drums all around.. im looking at a lincoln versailles and wondering if i can take the front discs from it and bolt them right up. If so what parts will i need from the donor versailles (1977). and also will the versailles 9" rear end fit my maverick "easily"? im mostly interested in the disc swap for the front but i figure if im gonna pull the front i might as well do the back at the same time.
The front spindles and all brake parts will bolt right on. Just pay attention to the length of the outer tie-rod shaft length where it bolts to the spindle. It may or may not need to be replaced with one with a shorter shaft.
I'm assuming the drive shaft will need shortened for a 9-inch, but I know someone here can correct me if I'm mistaken.
Would be great to know since I'm about to swap my rear with one as well. Or I guess ill find out when I go to do it haha
I have a different 9" in my car but it uses the stock length driveshaft and all I needed was a universal that had 2 diff sized ends to adapt the DS to the new 9" yoke.. Late and I can't think of the proper name for it..
NO !! They will not bolt right up. The Versailles used different ball joints. To use them in a Mav/Comet/Stang, you have to bush the ball joint holes in the Versailles spindles. There is or was a guy goes by the name "mustang Steve" that made the adapter bushings to do this. Or, try using the Versailles ball joints (if that's possible, never heard anyone trying it)
You don't need to change the proportioning valve if going from 4 drum to 4 disc. I didn't in doing this on a 67 Stang. The Stang's P/P valve worked just fine.
The rear will bolt right in, but you will have to do some adapting to connect the brake line and parking brake cable. The overall width may be slightly different too. The important thing is the spring pads are the same dimension apart as the Mav's (and all other Ford leaf sprung rears for the cars)
I have always heard this, but I had a set of disc brakes off of a Versailes...and brand new Maverick lower ball joints bolted right up.
One other issue with the rear axle, it uses a flange on the pinion and not a traditional yoke. Same here, guess I'd better check it out.

I learned this hanging out on the Mustang forums. The part about the 1" or more thickness is a first though. Seems every set of Granada/Monarch/Versailles brakes I've bought & sold though had the thicker rotors. Never had a complaint about it though. As I recall the Granada/Monarch/Versailles rotors have a minimum thickness cast into the rotor of 1.03 or so. (or maybe I'm mistaken, it's been awhile since I sold my last set)
You can change the yoke, no problem there. Or use the other part of the flange, if you get that with the rear. Same set up (flange/yoke assembly) was used on the 8.8 rears. (but with a different flange pattern)
