I guess that's why none of the Walmarts around here have anything but Pinto's and Gremlin's....

Ray, have you had any confirmation that MotorMax is actually planning on releasing a 1:24 scale 71-72 verson of the Maverick, Grabber, Sprint, or otherwise? I haven't. Just the Stallions. I encouraged them big-time when I was helping with the Stallion, but they would never confirm they were going to do the 71-72 style Maverick.

I also encouraged them to do the radio controlled versions of the Maverick like they have for the Pinto, Gremlin, and Pacers, but they told me specifically they weren't planning an R/C version of the Maverick. I told them they'd probably sell as many Mavericks as they did of those other models combined, but no go. I think since the retail giants got stuck with alot of those too, they fear there isn't enough demand. I'll keep trying though.

I don't understand why they made a BIG bumper Maverick and a small Bumper Comet? I also heard somewhere that Ford wouldn't let them license the COmet GT hood scoop so they couldn't make a GT ... is that true or BS? What is the hold up on small Bumper Grabbers? They would rather invest in Gremlins, Pintos and Vegas than spend some $$$ on Grabber Hood and Rear Spoiler Tooling?

My Local Walmarts have had the same Pinto's and Gremlins both 1:24 and RC on shelves for the last two years ... they never change. The Big RC Gremlins were recently on clearance. Why in the world would a company produced Giant Pintos and Gremlins. Any schmuck could have gone to Google.com and seen Mavericks are much more popular than those two combined.

Dan, I'm in total agreement and have preached that to them since I started communicating with them. I told them they would likely sell as many Mavericks as Pintos and Gremlins combined. Of course, the retail giants must have gotten stuck with a glut of Pintos and Gremlins, so to Motormax, they may perceive demand as what the retailers are willing to order, not what consumers are actually willing to purchase. Since the Pintos and Gremlins were a semi-bust, I'm sure orders for the Mavericks and Comets are down, and therefore production is down. They pretty much told me that much.

I have never been told anything about the Comet GT scoop, but I never knew to ask. They have NEVER confirmed they will be producing the GT or the 71-72 Grabbers or Sprints either, although they indicated they had been in contact with other Club members and had sample photos of both. They did, however, specifically say there were no plans to do Maverick R/C cars. I have no idea why they chose the model years they did. I suspect that the people who are in charge of development just aren't serious car people. Not that I would know the preferable model to produce of every model vehicle out there, but it certainly wouldn't have taken much research at all to determine that the 71-72 Grabber and Comet GT would be the biggest sellers by far. So again, I have no idea why they chose what they have.

To add to the list of colors for the Comets, I picked up 2 kits one is black and the other is silver.

believe John Ford has a black with flames FC 1/24 Maverick. It has mags, sidepipes and some kind of hood scoop if I remember correctly. Pretty rare never seen another one yet.

I dont know about all that. The one I got is just a stock black comet

Yeah, I'd like to see that black with flames Maverick too.

A black Comet?? I'll have to inquire about that...

Also, are you sure it's a silver Comet and not the "honey gold" color?

That would be me that sent them plenty of pics and a full detailed list of options etc. per thier request.
As time has gone by it is obvious they (motormax) aren't going for the "sporty" or "muscle-car" version of most anything they produce. Nearly all of their recent releases have been the plain and boring versions. I think that was the niche they were going after since every other diecast company is making some really crazy (huge motors, tires & rims, outrageous paint jobs and for the most part out of scale) looking models.

The word I got from them was the Comet GT was dropped. Issues with the hood scoop and floor shifter caused FoMoCo to deny thier offering for approval... They chose to drop the line versus change the items.

Is the Honey Gold color really a silver/pewter color? I will take some pic's of the silver/pewter and the plain black ones tomorrow.

I just confirmed with MotorMax there have been no 1:24 Mavericks in black with flames. Sounds like someone either customized one or it was a Vega after all.

The Stallions are on their way to the U.S. so I expect to have them by mid-December. They were originally scheduled for 9/20, then mid-Nov, but at least they are finally on their way!
