Have a 76 Mav 302 AT with manual disc brakes. What is involved in adding power? Just a matter of bolting booster/master cyl?
Not quite but almost you will need the master cylinder also and new re bend you brake lines or get new ones to the prop valve.
And the power brake pedal ... it is different .. Also the hidiously ugly shock tower brace will be necessary ...
we are using the old drum brakes on our 60 F100, and we added power to them by just using a master cylinder out of a ranger with booster, and it works really good, almost too good.
I have the tower brace that I'll be happy to sell if anyone needs one. I also have the pedal and corresponding column bracket for the power set-up. If anyone's interested, let me know...
You dont need the pedel but as long as your ok with the pedel sticking up higher then the gas pedel. yeah forgot about the brace.
Thanks to all. Surprised a brace is called for. Is the assumption that driver will be working brakes harder than with "foot power"?
The standard brace would interfere with the Power Booster. A special brace is required to wrap around the power booster... It ain't pretty but it works ...
Everyone has kinda touched on most of the parts but none have a clear answer sooo I'll give it a shot. On manual brake cars the mastercylinder is mounted directly to the firewall. On power brake mavericks ford had to put a spacer to get the mastercylinder to clear the shock tower. So the booster and mastercylider go up and out at an angle that is why you have to have the funky tower brace. Now because the booster sets at a different angle the stock manual pedal will not work. So you need the pedal bracket and pedel from the boosted car. You also need the brake light switch because they are different too. The manual one won't come on until the pedal is completely depressed, the power brake switch has a lighter spring that lets it come on as soon as the pedal is depressed. So the best thing to do is find a maverick that has power brakes and rob all the parts you need.
Thanks Thomas. The more I drive it, the more I get used to the non-power discs, and the less I get used to the power steering. I may forget about the brakes and look into doing something about the steering.
