id say its a t4 looks just like a t5 but the shifter has three bolts holding it on and no fifth gear not as strong I'm sure it will work in a stock type motor

define mild track use? had one in a 1979 mustang carbed turbo 4cyl it worked good but the shifter sucked it ran 14.80s burning the clutch all the time then i swapped in a t5 bolted up with no mods at all you can brake a cannon ball in a sand box if you "beat it like a bat out of hell" butt i think it will work if you don't have to much grunt in the bay

Its the crappy trans with the internal linkage! why are you calling it by its platform name? we know its either a Capri or a Mustang!

    I had a buddy with a '82 Capri with a 302 and a 4 speed, probably the same trans.

I was thinking it was that German Trans, there was alway trouble with shifter and internal linkage! I use a Toploader.

Good rule of thumb on Ford 4 speeds:
    Iron trans = good
    Aluminum trans = bad

That is very general, but true.
