Deb's Mustang has been giving fits lately. Very sluggish, sometimes it wouldn't even rev up over 2500 rpm in park. A mechanic buddy told me to unplug the mass air flow sensor to see if that affected it. I did, and WOW! The little sucker will nearly rev out of the frame now, runs and drives MUCH better, no sluggishness, picks right up and goes! Heck, it will even do a one wheel burnout on wet pavement, it's never done that before! Not bad for a 4 cyl! The question is, do I really need the mass air flow sensor? I know it's supposed to tell the computer how much air is getting into the engine, but it's running perfect without it, telling me that it has been going bad a long time. A rebuilt one is $80, and takes about 10 minutes to put in, but if I can get by without it, I'll just leave it off. So, what about it you guys with experience on fuel injection systems? Leave it off or replace it? I would ask my mechanic bud, but he's out of town...

Sounds like it would lean out without a MAF, but mine seems to run fine with out it. :hmmm: From what I have been able to google up, it seems it will run fine or it will run like crap. I guess I'll just go ahead and get one and try it and see if it works right.

if the sensor is dirty it will act really bad. try cleaning it with throttle body cleaner. you can unbolt the sensor from the housing. then you will see the two sensor wires on the bottom of the sensor. clean them and blow them dry. i may be to late and you may already have the new sensor.

Mine has the screen wire in it Bryant. I tried cleaning it with electronics cleaner I got from Radio Shack that was reccomended on another site, but it had no effect. I'm just going to get a new one and replace it so she can get back to driving it instead of my pickup.
