well i haven't had any money to work on the mav so i did what any hot-rodder would do...steal parts from other cars.My dad has this 92 nissan maxima with a blown tranny thats heading for the JY, so i checked it out to see what parts i could use on the mav.The hood supports fit great and work great.I took these mock up pics.

Right now i just used self tapping screws to bolt them on but i will be changing them to tube nuts. The bottom brackets bolt up great to some of the factory bolts i just have to drill 2 new ones.

It sure looks to me like it would.

We need more of this kind of thing! This, Frank's rear disc brakes, CaptainComet's truck shocks, my BFV springs... I love it when new junkyard discoveries are made!

Many years ago I did the exact same thing with a camaro hood shock assembly. But I found the shock laying across the top of the shock tower kept the hood from closing, ever so slightly. Will be interesting to see if those work. If they are smaller diameter than the camaro ones, they just might.

I hope this works out my attempt didn't pan out until I changed hinges to a fox body type. Like Dennis my struts are longer (92 escort rear glass). The problem I had was when I got the hood to close right it wouldn't open any farther than the prop rod and my goal was to have it open far enough so I would not bang my head on the latch anymore.

Yea, that's pretty much essential. Maverick75, do your yood struts hold the hood open than the prop rod?

Thack, what was involved in your hood hinge swap?

I had to add some meat to the hood beacuase the hinge sets more inboard. I made two small boxes that the hinge would bolt to the cut and welded them into the cowl just above the seam. The hood is open half way in my signature for the car show with no stops to support it. It won't do that now the struts must have lost some pressure.
