Pardom my multiple questions. I'm getting ready to do this very thing so its great to find someone who has done it and has pictures.

Did the crossmember you put in fit as is or did it require a lot of modification?

I took the measurements from inside rail to inside rail ... and made sure that they had a cradle that would work without mods before i ordered ... I called them and talked to a fellow personally instead of ordering it blindly via the net... When it arrived i did a dry fit and found out it was about a 1/2 inch narrow... Instead of using shim plates i choose to squeeze the frame rails 3/8 ths on each side and then do my welding ... I had to make a jig out of some 4" angle and use a porta power to pull the rails together...

I was worried that if i didnt get the geometry correct it would look like the car was running down the road side ways so found the center line and bolted the car down to the floor ...To make sure that pulled both sides equally I made another jig that mounted to to the frame rails about two feet behind the cradle then bolted it to the floor to keep the frame stationary .. i pulled one rail then the other exactly 3/8ths inch each then used a spreader bar to push out the rails until i had a decent fit ... every thing else fit like a glove ... I probably could have shoved a shim plate between the cradle and rail but i probably wouldnt have been satisfied ... But thats just me ... :)

    MII Front End

OK Guys, looks like I might have another weekend before I leave and go overseas. I'm going to try and put my $100.00 MII front end on! For you folks that have done this, what did you do about the torque rods (where did you mount them). Any other helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tomm

I bought strut rod elimenators for mine. also from what you posted I am assuming that you are using the factory MII cradle?? If you are word to the wise (trust me on this I learned the hard way:D) the MII Is almost 4" narrower than the mav frame rails and will require some special attention. I welded new frame rails to the inside of mine or you can trim your frame and cradle to fit....I chose the added frame rails cause I think it's stronger that way (I'm putting a 460 in mine) and I'm telling you know you do not want to split and widen the cradle unless you want your front end REALLY WIDE!!!!:D I tried that route first:rolleyes: then had to cut every thing uot and do it all over again......If you need any help or pictures email me and I'll help you in any way I can:)

Robert, another question. What did the side to side clearance on the front tires look like when you finished? Did it look the same as the stock setup? I've taken the MII front end apart and will start cutting shock towers this weekend after I get my measurements worked out. Thanks

Thanks Robert, wasn't sure if this mod made a difference on the clearence (side to side) of the tires. Did you ever find anything on the subframe connectors. I want to try and put connectors in without cutting up those new floor pans I just put in. I found a couple of places that sell them but they don't have a picture where I can figure out how to make them myself (trying to save money). Thanks

Maybe someone can help. The ability of me not to do this project is holding everything up. I have zero welding skills and even If I did I dont have the shop to do it in. I'm willing to pay someone to do it for me but cannot find anyone localy. Any suggestions?

If I cant get moving on this car I may just need to scrap the whole project.

Tomm my frame rail conectors run through my rear floor pans I did mine that way for the rigidness and so I could use my frame conectors for my frame mounts for my ladder bars.....search the archives here using the key word sub frame conectors.....there are some good pictures of mine and also the ones that dan built that are on mavaholics sprint......they are more for what you are looking for.

Greg have you checked around your area for street rodders or roundy round guys??? I'm certain that there are some capable people in your area........I would be more than happy to help you but I'm way to far away......sorry.

I have checked with a few local shops but they all tell me it would be a year before they can get to me. Must be nice when business is so good that you have to turn people away.

    Is that Maverick from Texas?

    yep

sure is Doug,I bought it off of ebay last summer. It was in fortworth.....they said the motor was locked up but once I got it home I put a battery in it and cranked over and started.....:D(I think the starter was stuck into the flywheel and the trailer ride home shook it loose) but it was what I was looking for....... a rust free maverick......I bought it for $260.00....

Neat! (Sometimes I think people are trying to be too honest). Several cars I've purchased were sold on the basis that it wouldn't run. A little tinkering--and they're on the road again! [...to quote Willie Nelson] :D

That's funny, but I've driven to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for 3 of my Mavericks! Must be the place! :D
