I have found an 8 inch mustang rear from a 1967. This rear is approx 3.5 inches wider than our standard rears. Would this rear give me more backspacing for my wheels???(thinking 1.75 inches each side) I currently have only a fraction of space before my tires hit the leaf springs and on turns my tire will sometimes hit the inner body well.. I understand the spring perch might be 1/2 inch off does this need to be removed and rewelded or does it work where it is???Never done a complete rear axle before only replaced existing unit's with like units.. I am building a track car nothing to fast want to run consistant 12.0 and like the idea of having more backspacing. Are there any pro's and or cons with using this axle??? Anyone ever done it before???

the rear end has nothing to do with backspacing. if it is wider you will need more backspacing on your wheels to keep the tires under the wheel wells. i would think that if your tires are almost hitting the leaf springs that they would also be pretty close to the body on the outside. you might find a whole new set of problems trying to move the wheels farther out. plus you'd need new rims too.:)

I have a '70 9" under my car, it's 4" wider than the original Mav rear so my wheels are 8" wide with 6" of backspace! The spring perches are a total 1/4" wider than a Mav, 1/8" each side. They bolted up ok. Until you get under there and start measuring things you won't know what will fit. Unlike the new cars of today these things weren't built to within 1/2 mm accuracy.
