I like the stock look. I think Mustang had about 1 inch wider wheels. I may be getting my things mixed up but arn't the stock wheels 5.5, and Mustang had some 6.5 inchers. I put some wider 14s on my 73, and I think they were Mustangs. Magnum 500s were stock on a lotta Ford vehicles, inc. the Shelby and Ranchero, so there were some center emblems other than a pony. Be warned, there were 3 or 2 different size centers, so all did not fit everything. Good luck. Nice car Charles Fla
Sorry guys but you're all on crack. I'm not trying to piss anyone off here--you guys are my friends, but Keystone Klassics are some of the most butt-ugly wheels ever made and they look especially terrible on Mavericks. With so many great wheels to choose from, I cannot understand why anyone would put that crap on their car. Hope I didn't make any enemies but I just have to tell it like it is...
I wouldn't necessarily use the same words, but I'm on T.L.'s side about the Keystones. I've heard horror stories about them and Cragar S/S wheels for over 30 years. I'm very partial to Magnums and old style American Racing wheels such as the one in this thread: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=12826
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Even if I or someone else doesn't agree with it, I happen to think Keystones are one of the best looking wheels that can be put on Mavericks, Checkout pictures of squeal1's Maverick and other Mavericks with Keystones and see how good they look.
I agree.....Neal has one of the nicest, cleanest, straightest best looking cars around. And the Keystone's are part of what gives it that nice look IMO
If we didn't have different tastes and opinions, there wouldn't be the variety we see on these Mavericks. Green is definitely not my color and I wouldn't paint any of my cars green, but it sure looks dadgum good on Earl Branham's Maverick. Some of those Keystones look good on those Mavericks, just not mine. My dislike for the Keystones and the Cragars is that I've heard too many stories of them breaking, rusting away, coming apart while driving, etc. It's a safety issue with me. I know, I know. Any wheel can do that, but I've just heard too many stories over the last 35 years about those two brands.
This is a tough decision. I see everyone has their strong opinions...thats cool. I have to admit I like the look of both Crager SS and the Keystone Classic. Not too keen on the Mag 500...not on my car anyway. I am leaning hard to the Keystones....I guess all of our cars take on their own sorta "personality" ....I'll just have to figure out what "look" I want. I was going for the sleek stock/muscle look....but am in the mood to give my car more of a "bad ass" persona. Thanks for all the input guys, I'll post pics when she's done. BTW...where can I find a good pic of Squeal1's car...to look at his wheels. D. Ray
Keystones are simply cheap-ass wheels and with so many great new wheels on the market today, It just doesn't make sense to use that retro stuff...
Hey 72CometGT, I don't have a picture of squeal1's car but heres a link to a picture of mine with the Keystones. http://mmb.maverick.to/attachment.php?attachmentid=7331
Looks good. Thanks for the pic. How long those been on? No problems? T.L. has got me thinking though. Maybe I'll wait till Carlise, see a few Mavs up close, and buy a set there. Thanks man.
They have been on there since 1982 I believe, I have repainted the black on them a couple of times but no problems.
