Nope, havent gotten that far yet, all I have so far is the foundation trench and a level area for the pad. I was going to go with a monolithic pour but that might change. The guy that is going to form it up cant get to me till the first of next week. He is going to charge me $60 per yard to form and finish. based on what he suggests I may have to lay a foundation then block. As you can see from the pictures my back yard is lower than the rest of the property and is the only place I could put the new garage, so it might have to be elevated to keep water out, or I might have to dig a couple of dry wells to catch surface water and pump it to the ditch.

You were lucky on yours, I have 6 to 12 inches of top soil and it is real soft so he had to dig down to about 18 inches to hit something solid.

Well the guy to do the concrete is suppose to come by today after lunch to look at the area and recommend which method to go with.

I pumped out the trench sunday and a 10 section that is deeper than the rest keeps filling back up.....hope it is just ground water and not a wet weather spring.

I have a feeling with the slop of the property and the depth to solid ground I will have to have block laid and a pad poured inside that insted of a single monolitic pour. Plus the 10 day forcast looks like crap.


Well, left work a 2:00 to meet the concrete guy, come to find out he is working on a maverick and is the son-in-law of the guy I bought the green grabber shell from....small world.

As I figured he suggests that we pour a foundation and lay 8" block then pour the floor.

I also had water back in a few areas and pumped it out again and noticed clear water bubblin up...so it is going to be a while before I can continue.

wooooo hooooo construction continues

well today we started cleaning out the foundation, had issues and called the inspector and he came by and said we were ok with what we did. so tomorrow morning my guy will be back to finish up the clean up and get ready for the first inspection and the footer pour.

I ended up having to go almost 3 feet down to hit solid soil for the footer so a monolitic pour isn't going to happen, going to have to lay block then pour the floor. the guy who is laying the block and doing the floor can't get to me till next week. of course they are calling for rain in the pm on friday so I am hoping it misses us. it has been so wet that I had to buy a sump pump to clear the water out.

If i get the floor poured this next week I will be able to get started building in a couple of weeks.
ya I know pictures I'll get some and load them up this weekend.

OK here is a tease... Well The inspector required us to dig deeper in about half of the footer, so when we did that we hit the winter water table so we stopped and had to wait till today to clean out the footer just before pouring the concrete. the inspector showed up about 1 and signed off on the footer and we ordered the concrete 14 yards and 1400 bucks later the footer is done. the blocks and floor will be done by the end of next week, if my guy doesn't get behind.

P.S. the 12ft high fence belongs to the neighbor from HE$$

You are going to have reinforced concrete floor, right?
It would be a shame to pour a 6 inch floor and have it crack on you the first year!
Are you using 2x6 wood frame or post and beam or metal construction?
Are you having an overhead hoist installed or are you going to add the foundation for it later?
How high is the ceiling going to be?

 

going to have 4 inch floor except in the area of the 2-post lift which will be 6. It will have 1/2 rebar laid in, put 2 in the footer.

I plan on having 2x6 walls with a 30' clear span roof. if you look back at the earlier post you will see a floor plan in pdf form.


AND OUCH.....wrote the check out today for the work done so far 8,200 bucks all because I have a crappy yard full of water and piss pour drainage that had to be fixed. plus 1400 for concrete and 750 for drain tile to cross the ditch.

lucky for me my dad left me money and the house to my sister, he has been gone a little over 3 years now and I figured it was time to put the money to good use...of course his ghost will be watching over it...he was a machinist for over 30 years, so he would be happy that I am building a "MAN CAVE"

it must have poured the rain last night. I have thousands of worms on the footer and standing water on them too. It is for sure in a low spot. luckly I had my guy dig a 4' hole just off center on the out side to catch the water, I have a automatic sump pump in the hole to pump out all that water to the ditch.
