Somewheres I had info on either a Power Steering Box or Rack conversion..Be damned if I can find it now, searched best I can..I want to get faster steering so thats why I'm looking towards a power box or rack.....
Borgeson units 500-1000$ look alot like some stock ford units I cant see paying 500 bucks for something that looks an aweful lot like some power assist steering units on ford pickups and other vehicles. I would think if one was to do some homework they could find a power assist steering box from a ford pickup or other vehiclethat could be retrofitted to a maverick. Im not saying its 100% possible but im going to look into it I think. would prob add similar weight as borgeson unit too, just a thought?
I did some homework and in 2011 I figured that box that is used by Borgension to retro into the Mav/Com [and other applications] is the 2001 Isusu Trooper..Pretty compact power assist box and would work in strait axle cars with cross steer as well as in my Comet with stock type suspension, for which I bought the whole kit from Borg, bolts in with long hairs or short hairs depending where your patience is that day,,...Depending on your enthusiasum making the mount to frame and combining the Comet and Trooper arm for alinenment would not be too hard just takes some time and thought and being/having a good welder...I my case I had the thought and went out and got a Trooper box to use; but I am original owner of car [15k miles] and didn't want to do the fab [i.e. time/cutting and being old] so I took the bolt in route, works like Ford did it...So I have a good Trooper box w/steering arm for sale, $125.00 plus shipping should you want to make a stab at it...Seb......
offer apperciated I am not sure if Im going power steering or electric or maybe a crazy attempt to put 03 mustang front subframe. busy working on other stuff atm and ill keep it in mind and may want to buy in the future thanks a lot for the offer and time taken to make it. God Bless, wade
mustangsteve.com offers now a neat looking electric power steering kit that fits under the dash for classic stangs, maybe it would work on the maverick too
I still have the trooper box I mentioned in earlier post...And if you add an electric power assist to column I don't think you will get any improvement in steering ratio, i.e., less turns lock to lock...
