Hey guys, so the power steering slev unit drop bracket I bolted on a while back for the header install just crapped out on me, pulled the bolt through the frame and snapped so now its just danglin about and I don't wanna deal with the leaky power steering stuff so I want to go to manual steering, how would I go about it? What would I need and how would I do it? What parts would stay and what could I get rid of? I'm wanting as much of a minimalist set up as possible, less parts that can go wrong :p thanks guys, and maybe iill sell or trade what I take off?

You need the center link, idler arm, and pitman arm from a manual steering car, some people have left the power steering box, with good results, since it is a quicker ratio, compared to the manual box.

I think I found a pittman on ebay and a idler on mustangs plus, now what centerlink should I get? I have no clue but don't want to spend a bunch, any suggestions? Also do I just rip everything that lookspower steering-y off?

You need a Maverick/Comet manual steering center link, and the idler arm to match. Then you remove the power steering center link, the idler arm, and pitman arm off the steering box, along with the pump, hoses and steering ram.

You shouldn't need the idler arm. I never changed mine when I converted it to manual. Just needed the pitman arm and centerlink

So I can get by with just the centerlink and pitman arm?

Yep, idlers are same(unlike some other Ford products)...

Now for the fly in the ointment... There are at least two different manual center links and each requires it's matching pittman arm and idler, these parts vary dependent on year...

So if I were to get a center link for a 70-74 and a pittman from a 70-74 thy would match but not 70-74 center and 75-77 pittman?

That's what I meant by " idler arm to match" seems, people always get screwed up on this...

    I suspect that's correct...

I know '70/'72 are different from '75/'77, not sure how '73/'74 fits into the picture...

There are manual conversions that replace the P/S control valve,so none of the components will need to be changed...
