Introduce yourself, use the search function, ask questions. I think I read where guys change out the center link with a manual one and get rid of control valve, pump etc. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!
the pitman arm needs to be changed along with the center link, or you can get and adaptor that replaces the control valve that will work with the power steering center link and pitman arm
steering box can remain in place, just swap the pitman arm. you'll have a different ratio, but it'll be all good.
I searched, where can I get the pitman arm I need or what other vehicle will fit for the manual swap?
I know this thread is old and you have probably already done your swap, but may help someone else. What you need is a control valve eliminator from Rare Parts. Here is the one for the Maverick on Amazon http://amzn.to/1IfmTIE It is a simple install, just a PITA! to get the press fitted studs out. Do yourself a favor and go to O'Reilly and rent the tool that looks like a small C-clamp with a claw on the bottom(Can't remember what it is called, but it is on their poster) and use that to press the power cylinder and ball stud out. Also, here is an article on it: http://bit.ly/1Oi49Xj
I used one of them for my 73 Mav and it had as much slop in it as the worn out power steering had. I replaced it with a pitman arm and center link from a 70 MS... thanks Mike...
Yeah, just depends on what is worn. In my case it was the power cylinder and control valve causing it to be erratic, but YMMV
