The correct orange would be calypso corral, but any brighter orange such as sunset orange or hugger orange would be a good color. Go to the paint store and look at a color chart and pick what you like.

Yes the cars are gaining popularity due to the fact that Mustangs-Camaros and all the other so called muscle cars are a dime a dozen, I am not saying I dont like them I just like to be different

According to my Marti report my car is 1 of 211 mainly because of the paint trim options, it did come from the factory with the Grabber interior with bucket seats and deluxe door panels and floor shifter but had rubber floor mats no chrome boomerangs or drip rail trim or trim around doors or side windows.

Whatever YOU pick will be the 'correct' orange, but Mavericks did come in this orange...

Vista Orange, circa 1977, Ford Paint Code "8G"

c,mon man.. you can do better than that! lol I was being dramatic for sure but think about even the Boss 351's, SCJ and Shotgun cars were easily into the 13's once the horribly restrictive tune was gone. With headers and enough tire(5 leafs with shackles and/or airshocks.... anyone?).. and crappy as they surely were back then.. mid-high 12's was easy peazy. Put a high revving 302 Cleveland headed motor into one of these considerably lighter cars and it would have laid the other top players out running in the more restricted classes. 360 powered Duster?.. puhh..leeaasse.. Boss's rule!

Obviously this "compact car" was never designed to "lay anyone.. or anything out" before, during, or after the embargo's timeframe but even without that change in times.. Ford would never have released such a high power/low weight model because it would've easily upstaged and overshadowed their other prize winning pony's.. and cat's. Could you imagine if Ford would've decided to put the 302/2bbl motor into the even lighter Pinto? DZ-302 and 350 powered Camaro's, even with cross-rammed twin 4's on top, would have been a joke to such a car like that. lol

I'm not a huge fan of orange on most cars.. but I dig that combo and those tops are pretty cool too. I know it's just me being in "color match mode" lately.. but I gotta wonder if anyone ever ordered that same combo including a matching white interior? How rare could that combo be, eh?

My Grabber has a vin number that is one of one.

lol.. that's like telling a joke and walking away before finishing the punchline. So, what combination of color and parts makes it so rare?

Mine breaks down to 1 of 3 cars built this way when the optional 6.45 tires are factored into the numbers game. But I find the red vinyl top production number far more interesting in regards to ever seeing another just like mine.

Note he said VIN number, in that light every Mav or Comet built is one of one...

lol, yeah.. I got that Tom. Had to thunk about it for a second or two(yep, he "got me") but quickly guessed what Nick was doing and almost replied. But.. for once thought I'd keep from cluttering up potential resource threads with even more one liners(in my case, usually several more bad puns and redundant analogies tossed in there too).. not this specific thread per se but just help to create a small hotbed of resource info to be used in another more dedicated and refined thread. Figured I'd forego the jokes for once in hopes that maybe he'd inject some of his own personal marti report's build spec's.

Surely nothing against Nick here, I do dig one liners and the occasional quick poke, but I have to say that I find it damned weird that people are so guarded against sharing/contributing information to help others understand how rare and collectible some models/combo's may actually be. Obviously can't include Nick here either, but I do see people continually underestimating what this forum has done for these cars already(A LOT!).. and "as joker as I may be" at times, I tend to try and look at any future info resource threads promotional potential to better perpetuate the cars popularity and value going forward.

Seems obvious that people coming here already care about or have interest in restoring these cars to some semblance of the factory.. so, why not have a few more dedicated stickies to better centralize some of the information they may be interested in?

Probably because it takes hundreds of hours of time and I simply don't have enough to do it all myself. So the plan is to probably just insert/link info that is randomly scattered about this site's server fully buried in thousands of obscure non-related threads. A bit added in here and there will eventually add up to something usable and probably not become layed out across 100 pages of random and completely irrelevant thoughts and questions. Have also talked to Paul about the potential for tying such a resource into his "VIN thread" and he also agrees that it could be good for all.

I will be contacting Kevin Marti about creating this type of potential resource to get more guideline clarification. So far the only potentially small issue I could see us having here is the copyright legality. Previous reports seemed to lack consistently placed disclaimer info.. but from my recently received statistics report disclaimer notice placement(at the bottom of the page), it appears we may need to include a disclaimer that "single build statistics may be quoted" and MUST be followed by the statement below...

"Statistics courtesy of Marti Auto Works and copyrighted".

So, my quote of any Marti Report statistics would look like this whenever I added more information to this thread.

My 1971 Comet GT with vin # 1K31F550639 is... 1 of 36 that were equipped with Red Tweed Vinyl Roofs. Statistic courtesy of Marti Auto Works and copyrighted.

Of course, many posters will forget, simply won't care, or just be too damned lazy to include the required copyright disclaimer.. PM's will be sent, and moderator police will need to be called on occasion. Sure seems like a pretty small price to pay for the potential gain in site information and the added future interest it could help create.

    Got goin' again huh?? ;)

I'm not sure how Marti looks at people posting their vehicles statistics, with the net will no doubt happen whether he likes it or not... That said, I found a '69 Cobra article on net with production figures provided by him, so I guess given credit it's OK... Straying here, but till Marti got the records, there was no official total for '69 Cobras as the figures were lumped in with Fairlane production... I'm yet to get a report but by said article, I know they built 3910 Ram Air 4-Speed Fastbacks(that's more than all the HT models combined), never really been interested in what it takes to cut it down to one of one...

I'll be doing the same for mine, but I doubt a '71 comet gt, grabber blue and an inline 6 is going to be rare.

I'd put some small cash on a bet like that!

As many may already know.. there were 13,677 Comet GT's built in 1971.

Out of those first year production GT's built.. Marti Statistics Report for my 1971 Comet GT shows... "10,878 of these came with 302-2V Engines. Statistic Courtesy of Marti Auto Works and copyrighted."

So from a true pure stock rarity standpoint.. what one could find or expect to see in the market or local car shows.. how many of those 2,799 first year production 6 cylinder combos would have survived compared to if it had come originally equipped with a V8 option?

I'm pretty sure many of those 6 cylinder models were eventually converted over to V8's but would also have to guess that many of these first year base option cars got left to pasture simply because they were worn out, broke, wrecked, or just plain ignored enough to return to the earth one decade at a time. Maybe tape stripes and hood scoops just didn't create enough interest to keep them alive.
