Has anybody here ever tried a 85 Camaro rear spoiler on a Comet or Maverick? I measured the one on my sons parts car and found it to be just a little shorter than my Comet deck lid, about 2 inches if I remember right, looks like it would be easy to lengthen with a little fiberglass work, maybe get another one and section the two together to get the right length but I am unsure about the end caps fitting the conture of the Mav/Comet. I know, kinda sacreligieous to use Geriatic Motors parts on a blue blood but it is a good clean design and the boneyards are full of them and FOMOCO parts are getting harder to find !
I dont think its sacrilegious at all. But then, maybe thats because I have gm tail lights in mine. Thats the kind of thing that will make your car stand out from the rest. I say go for it!!!
Well I have an unedited potinac firebird spoiler with the light in middle on my 74 Maverick, it look rather well. I took a picture of it at night so it is a lil fosty . But installing it wasn't to bad, only thing I had to do was drill the orginal access holes bigger under the trunk to bolt it down. The next task I was thinking about doing was putting the Eleanor front ground effect on. I think, that would be hot on a 70-72 Maverick along with 74 extension on the front side fender to help everything match. :bananaman http://souljah.meckcom.net/Maverick.jpg
The wing looks good, like it was made for that car. What I am looking at for mine is a RS Camaro 3-piece spoiler, kinda like a grabber ducktail. Gonna take it off of sons parts car and try it when I get a chance, will post pics if it looks like it might fit without to much problem.
stepside, thanks for the thumbs up on the Sprint. It's got a long way to go but I'm still having fun with it, and that's what it's all about.
Well I got a chance to take off that spoiler today, the first pics are the blade--check out the length---just a bit shy of the trunk lid---the front leading edge will have to be either built up a bit or the ends shaved down to make a flush fit with the lid.
.....The next pics show the end caps.....keep in mind the attaching studs are holding it away from the body......fits the upper part of the body, bottom is a ways off....can't decide right now if I want to just use the blade, this length or add to it to extend the edges to the body edge like on an early Camaro [without the end caps] or rework the end caps and blade to match----only problem I see with that is my chrome strip extending too far back, would have to shorten it to match[ it ends up under the end caps.] What ya'll think? A little glass work any way you go, what would look the best?
I'd try to get the end caps to work. It would look more complete as opposed to just something bolted on the trunk. Looks like a neat project. Maybe you could cut in to the ends further in the horizontal plane. That way they wouldnt go as far down as they do now and plus it would move the edge closer over to the edge of the trunk. Here is a crude drawing of what I'm trying to say. Dont laugh, I told you guys I cant draw a straight line even with a ruler.
Not that bad a drawing Mavaholic, I kinda figured I was going th have to section it at the bodyline anyway. What I was talking about with just the blade was to extend it on both sides to the outside edge of the body--------it would be the width of the car--------when you open the trunk lid it would then stick out past it the width of the rear fender extensions----when you close it, it goes all the way to the edge, but I do kinda like the end caps too.
I was looking at a spolier from a '69 Camaro. It would extend over the sides of the trunk. I'd love for you keep us posted on the progress.
Yeah, thats what I was talking about extending the blade to the body edge but without the end caps-------------Back to work tomorrow so it'l have to wait till the weekend again!!!!Will think about it next week and get some idea of what I might do.
Ohhh Yeaaa !!!!!!!!!!! A Little Customization With The Imaguination I Like It Keep Up The Good Work You Will Get It , Any Way If You Mess That One Up It Diddnt Cost You Anything!!!!!!!!!! And You Will Know What To Do With The Next One .right I Think Its Kool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrrr Arrrrr Arrrrr
