    I picked up a ring gear and pinion 355 for a 8.8 in. 1987 mustang. will that gear fit in a 8 in. maverick houseing? It was free to me .the guy said he didnt know if it would fit. SO I thought the best place to ask was here! thanks ALex O.

    71 2 Dr Maverick, 70 Mustang Sportsroof, 77 F100 4x4, 72 maverick grabber wifes
    No it will not fit, the best place to look for lower gears is from a mustang II (74-78). you can find 3.40 and 3.50 in some. Buy the complete 3rd member and swap it. Or buy new gears from summit, reider racing.

    Nope, 8.8 and 8'' rearends are 2 different breeds

    Like Thom said, buy the set. They usually come as a matched set.:)
