well hell. I assume that means the hose that fits the radiator (it was a 170) will be to small for the engine goose neck and the water pump? Even if I fix the fan issue?

    Yeah, ain't I jus fulla glee? ...;)

    I think you'll find the 170 rad uses a 1¼" upper while 302 uses 1½".

Here ya go, V8 vs 200 I6 rad.

V8 has greater offset on upper, plus additional clearance in tank for fan. Both inlet and outlet smaller on 6cyl.

one more question...since the 1970 never had a V8, the V8 radiator will still bolt in?

Check the listing I posted, I believe all used similar size radiators.

You may be able to use that radiator w/ some hose modification, if your going to elec fan. It will be less stressful/hassle getting correct radiator . Electric fan much safer that what I see a lot of folk have using engine fan w/o any kind of shroud..

That's the way I went, 10 years ago. Flex-A-Lite, LoBoy #118Puller 3 3/16 deep had to offset to pass side to clear water pump pulley -- fan has work flawless since install.

Think im gonna fire this think up on wed, or at least try to. Kinda nervous its gonna exploded or catch on fire. What do you recommend as far as fuel supply? Just put some in the tank? Hose into a small can? Just put a little in the carb?

I would squirt a little gas down the carb throat, some fuel in the tank, and give it a crank. You'll probably have to do that a few times until it pumps the gas all the way up to the carb and fills the float bowl, but if you keep cranking it without trying to fire until the carb fills up you risk running the battery down before you get the job done. Once it starts to pull fuel out of the carb you can work the throttle linkage to pump more fuel in using the accelerator pump. It's going to sputter and backfire a few times because it's going to run lean until everything is full of fuel. Keep a fire extinguisher ready and be watching for fuel leakage. If fuel in the intake starts to burn up through the carb KEEP CRANKING, the flames will normally blow out. If you can find a squeeze bottle you can fill with gas and squirt it down through the float bowl vent to partially fill the bowl that also works well. Something like a refillable ketchup bottle of the type sometimes found in burger joints works well.

I'm always too chicken to first start with the air cleaner off. If you know what the bowl vent looks like, filing the bowl trough that works good along with a very small dribble down the carb. Good luck with that thing.....maybe run it without the exhaust so I can hear it from my house, lol.

I never try to start a unknown engine with air cleaner, Hell I enjoy a good fire belch. :yikes: Great training/ learning aid for learning how to properly time a engine. :cheers2:

Unless you've done something ridiculous, like pour a pint of gas down carb, at most there will be a puff of fire and that's it. Assumin' the outside of carb, intake, etc isn't doused with gas, there will be no fire.
