lol....you guys....just tape a 4' broomstick to your distributor so you can adjust the timing while you crank it, grow your arm 4' or pay the kid who mows your yard 5 bucks to crank the key while you turn the dizzy. Put a piece of tape on the motor under the vac pot and start moving that thing. Or you can do what I did and pull the valve covers to double check valve lash, pull the dizzy to spin the oil pump for each lifter adjustment, find it did nothing, and THEN mess with timing to have it fire right up. but I know my valves are absolutely perfect....lol.

Yes Russia produced eye tubes but ones I have are in 1930s/40s radios. Were used used as tuning aid. Normally off station, approx ΒΌ of area is open, narrows on accurate tuning.

Eye in my 1936 Silvertone Console, glare makes it appear closed. This is same tube pictured in tester, mfg'd 1947, Delco branded. Only lasted around 1000 hours before they were dimming.

Being all ears, Alexa is jealous of that 1936 eye. I can tell by the way she talks.

used the light tester at each plug on the dist side. Had spark on every one. Does that mean the Duraspark II is good and working?

If you are getting multiple sparks yes. Modules can fail and only produce one spark.

All that's necessary is connect a spark plug to coil wire, then connect plug to a good ground. Should be a a continual spark while cranking. Can open plug gap to .075 or so to make spark more visible.

There's little to be gained by looking at each plug wire spark, if one has spark, 99.99% all will.

I'll guess that's OK, seems to be firing on regular interval, meaning once every two engine revolutions.

While I've seen the testers such as yours, I've never owned one. If coil and plug wires will jump a 3/8" to 1/2" spark to ground, I move on. High energy systems can produce a spark of inch or more.

You engine is most likely out of time. Sounds like it has compression, no doubt has spark & fuel.

After talking to a friend of mine who used to drag chevys back in the 70s, I believe it is a timing issue. I think I made a bad assumption that since
    • I never removed the distr,
    • and that the cap only goes on one way,
    • and the cap has wire 1 marked,
That I could slap the cap on and use the marked #1 and be fine. I dont think this is true
