Those were LEDs on that car, or at least the light bulbs were.

And with their LED set all you have to do is drill four holes to mimic the 66 mustang tail light housing. The rest of the light will rest on top of the tail panel with 3m sticky tape... So if you ever want to go back to stock you just weld up the 8 holes...

Unless you do it the hard way and replace the entire panel with the Shelby one. Lot more work but I like it. Just needs to be done by an experienced body man. And if you go that route, use the steel panel rather than the Fiberglas one. I've used both. If I had used steel the first time I wouldn't have had to redo it later on. :)

I agree with Ray. The way they did it on the show was a cheesy way of doing it and you can tell because the lights hung below the raised portion of the stock tail panel.

If you look at pictures of Ray's car you will see that the tail lights look and fit like they were factory and not some bolt on after thought.

Ray's car is the closest I have saw to a really Maverick Shelby if they ever made one. I forgot they made 300 for the Mexican market.

Didn't the original Shelby Mustangs all have the fiberglass panel?
I'm not an expert on Shelbys.

I like the way my friend did his. He wasn't trying to make the car look like a Mustang, but rather a Maverick with really cool tail lights.

Yes, and it's pretty cheesy, they hacked out the original tail light opening, and drilled a couple other holes, it you've ever see a stripped down Shelby, you'd wonder what they were thinking. I'll see if I have any pictures.

How Quick a 1970's car went had a lot to do with how the car was equipped ! A lot of the cars that were tested that recorded poor times were high gear Auto cars, some even had open rear diff! I remember Car Craft testing a 427 cougar
the car had 3.50 gears and an open diff! Whay even post the times for such a car! One of the guys I used to race with had a 1970 454 LS6 Chevalle all stock with only headers and slicks the car run 12.01 at 112!

Wow, just like those Mavericks with "stock" 302s that ran low 12s with 4.11 gears & slicks (LOL).

I can believe a 1970 LS6 Chevelle with OPEN headers, proper tune and slicks could run 12.0... Of course it'd need some gear but many of those cars had posi 3.73 to 4.11 from factory...

BTW the '70 LS6 was rated 450Hp, with mods mentioned they came real close to producing the numbers...
