I need to replace my carb, which is currently a 1 bbl motorcraft, on my il 250. Is it better to upgrade it to a 2 bbl carb at this point? I know I'll need an adapter plate. Any thoughts?
To really take advantage of the bigger carb, you need to change the cam and add an exhaust manifold as well as other mods. that is why most just go to a V-8.
You really need to determine what your goals are with this car and engine. Just "adding parts" without a plan can mean a lot of money spent with not much to show for it.
The headers went on because I couldn't find a stock exhaust manifold, and I wanted something less restrictive. And the dual exhaust went on, because I needed a new exhaust because of the addition of the nee headers. I just wondered if the 2bbl carb was a logical upgrade from the 1bbl, since I'll be replacing it anyway. It's just a daily driver, but I was hoping to step it up a bit from stock, that's my current goal.
Basically yes, though the integral intake is a restriction so I dunno how much improvement you can expect... Main problem is if it's over carburated it'll be lazy, maybe bog at low speeds...
To get your moneys worth...remove head and take it to the machine shop and have them hog out the hole in the log. A 1-to 2 bbl adapter ain't gonna help at all in performance. Only thing the '1-to-2 adapter' is going to do is make you smell gasoline
